Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles; Behind The Scenes With soaring photography that circles from above then swoops in for the action, TROY is Wolfgang Petersen's majestic presentation of the classic Greek legend. It tells the story of an epic battle over Helen (Diane Kruger), the queen of Sparta, who is kidnapped by her lover Paris (Orlando Bloom), the prince of Troy. This infuriates Helen's husband Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), whose brother Agamemnon (Brian Cox) convinces him to invade Troy. They recruit Achilles (Brad Pitt), the best warrior in Greece, whose bravery, quick feet, and remarkable swordsmanship (not to mention tanned biceps, short kilts, and blond locks) have earned him a reputation that is almost as impressive as his ego. Achilles agrees to fight for Sparta, if only for the fame it will bring him. Even Achilles's mother, in a touching scene, advises him to forget mortal achievements and become a hero who will be remembered throughout history. Along with the invasion of Troy, a series of duels must also be fought: Paris, who is heartbreaking in his lovestruck naiveté, must go up against the enraged Menelaus, and Achilles must settle a score with Hector (Eric Bana), who is fiercely dedicated to protecting his brother Paris and their father, the frail king Priam (Peter O'Toole). When the war finally ignites in its massive proportions, the action is awesome. And as the increasingly dramatic events play out, TROY earns its own timeless reputation among other action-adventure epics such as GLADIATOR and SPARTACUS. Troy Movie Review Great movie... ...and I'd give it more than three stars if the director's cut were not better. That version did not edit out the beautiful breasts of Diane Kruger. Don't you just HATE censorship!!
A few over-the-top performances aside from the main characters, it was still quite entertaining (if not COMPLETELY true to the Illiad). Submitted by Wang Hung Lo (Pensacola, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Good Picture! Always a great movie! And on Blue-Ray EVEN BETTER! Submitted by moises.padilla (El Paso, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
A much more "fleshed out" storyline This extended version of TROY gives much more depth to characterization, action, relationships, and (for those who care) nudity. The roles of Ajax, Achilles, Hector, Paris and Helen, among others have all been expanded and enhanced. The entire film has now benefited from a more humanistic and relevant stance. There is a greater sense that we are dealing with REAL people and not just actors playing a part. For this reviewer, there was an immediacy and personal quality to the movie that made it far more involving than its theatrical counterpart. Once again, one must question the editing directives of the Hollywood "suits" when it comes down to determining a film's running time. Not content with ruining many a music score with their uninformed interference, they now force too many movies into a time-linked straight-jacket to their detriment. A recent classic example is KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (and possibly KING KONG and ALEXANDER, to name a few) which was far better in its Director's Cut DVD release. At times, you feel as if you were watching a completely different movie than the one you had already seen. For the "new" TROY, highly recommended. Poor movie except for ONE actor This movie plays havoc with the history of the Trojan War, and it completely avoids the great role played by the gods and goddesses (and it completely ignores the real cause of the war: the judgment of Paris and subsequent stealing of Helen as a result of that judgment). Brad Pitt is a little comical. Even his ear lobes are buff!
The really fine acting comes in only a few moments and it is from the superb Peter O'Toole playing King Priam. An actor like this makes those around him seem even more mediocre. Submitted by thomasdonaldorr (Columbus, GA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Should have been much better Certainly not the best movie in the world.
The nudity in it was, as with any film, unnecessary.
The story is based on the relationship of Paris & Helen. The film does not show the beginning of the relationship so we can see how it started. Instead, we just get the scene where Orlando & the actress are making ?eyes? at each other. This tells us nothing of these people.
I think the marketing of the film, using the only point of sale that 1 actor was in it, was poor. I believe there are several ?name? actors in this film. I, myself, was only interested in the film because of Orlando. He is the hot actor of this cast at the moment after ?the Lord of the Rings? films & ?Pirates of the Caribbean?.
Let us see, Eric Bana getting himself into films now, Sean Bean who has been around since ?Stormy Monday? & his smaller part in the ?Lord of the Rings? first film & ?Patriot Games?. Peter O?Toole? What about him?
No, we receive 1 actor being pushed on us, this actor is the ONLY actor shown on both sides of the film?s DVD & inside there he is AGAIN. It was nice of the film makers to show Eric Bana inside.
DVD could have been MUCH better. No deleted scenes, no talking to the actors.
This whole production could have been done MUCH, MUCH BETTER.

Troy review
$15.44 NORTH BY NORTHWEST is a suspense thriller that finds Cary Grant in the role of Roger Thornhill, a Manhattan advertising executive mistaken for a spy. Considered by many to be the prototypical pure action movie (creating the template for later James Bond and Indiana Jones films), the film is a cross-country roller-coaster ride with Alfred Hitchcock at the helm. The film is duly famous for several classic and indelible scenes, including the desert biplane encounter and the Mt. Rushmore climax. The original title was THE MAN IN LINCOLN'S NOSE, which was replaced by a reference to a line from William Shakespeare's HAMLET (in which Hamlet says, "I am but mad north-north-west."). The magical combination of Hitchcock and the debonair Grant--who made four wonderful films together--makes NORTH BY NORTHWEST a suspense-filled standout.
When Thornhill finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, the world as he knows it comes to an end. Suddenly danger threatens as the hapless businessman is targeted as an American intelligence agent and set up as a killer. All of Thornhill's attempts to straighten things out only make matters worse--and soon the desperate man is on the run from murderous foreign operatives, the CIA, and the police. The supporting cast, including Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, and Martin Landau, is uniformly excellent.

$19.55 Director Yasushi Nagaoka's sci-fi mecha anime series GODANNAR breaks new ground in the genre by centering the giant-robot action on a hilariously at-odds married couple. When handsome mecha pilot, Goh, saved the life of a pink-haired high school student, Anna, little did he suspect that the two would fall in love and get married. Five years later, the newlyweds' domestic bliss is tested by Anna's desire to become her husband's copilot in a war against an alien race bent on world domination--as well as the temptations of various scantily clad high school girls. $14.39 One of mainstream cinema's most tirelessly inventive directors, Steven Soderbergh delivers another big-budget stylistic experiment with THE GOOD GERMAN. This time around, Soderbergh's target is 1940s film noir. Set in postwar Berlin, the atmospheric thriller is based on the acclaimed novel by Joseph Kanon. Frequent Soderbergh collaborator George Clooney plays Jake Geismer, an American military journalist who has returned to Berlin for the Potsdam Peace Conference. Jake's driver, Tully (Tobey Maguire), appears innocent upon first glance, but is in fact a major player in the corrupt Berlin underworld. He's also dating Jake's former flame, Lena Brandt (Cate Blanchett), whose beauty continues to torment Jake. When Tully's cadaver washes ashore one day, Jake is shocked to discover that nobody wants to go public with the news. As much as he'd like to forget about Lena, he can't. Pretty soon, he's risking his life to help her flee the country.
In shooting THE GOOD GERMAN, Soderbergh employed many of the actual filmmaking techniques that were used in the 1940s: black-and-white cinematography, elaborately constructed sets, wide master shots, and a sweeping score (compliments of Thomas Newman). The result is a film that looks and feels like it was made in a much earlier era, yet which contains the graphic language and content of an R-rated early 21st-century production.
