The group, led by the gutsy Jo and her macho, soon-to-be-ex Bill, have invented "Dorothy," a tank containing sensors that can provide much-needed info about these mysterious, severe weather conditions.
But in order for Dorothy to work, she first must be swallowed by a twister. So Jo, Bill, and the gang put their lives on the line innumerable times, as getting close to the storm means dodging everything from windswept cattle to flying oil tankers.
For Jo and Bill in particular, making meteorological history means having firsthand experience of the inside of a twister... In this action-packed disaster film set in America's heartland, an ex-husband-and-wife team of storm chasers rushes to be the first to study the dynamics of tornados with some fascinating new technology. Though Helen Hunt (AS GOOD AS IT GETS) and Bill Paxton (APOLLO 13) star--along with a pre-fame Philip Seymour Hoffman--the uncredited lead roles are the tornados, created with eye-dazzling computer-generated effects. SPEED director Jan de Bont takes the helm for this massive box office hit, while bestselling author Michael Crichton contributed the fast-moving story. TWISTER earned Academy-Award nominations for its achievements in sound and visual effects. Released theatrically in the USA on May 10, 1996, "Twister" created a storm, blowing away the competition with its $41 million gross its opening weekend, breaking box office records in the process.
Digitally mastered by THX for superior sound and picture quality.

Impressive, touching. I think that take a picture of nature in motion is at least touching. Again I enjoyed this movie with my family, and we love this thrilling journey. Our respect for those who live so close to this phenomena. Submitted by mickchato (MEXICO CITY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Unrealistic but fun!!! I watched this movie shortly after the TV tornado movie, Tornado Warning. I was quite disapointed, the film was extremely unrealistic. Although, there was some really exciting moments. the first tornado was in my opinion, the best! because it looked completely like the one in The Wizard Of Oz. It is spotted on the Kansas plains. I like the bit when it gets closer. this one is thin and narrow and bendy oh and of course, powerful. As Bill And Jo drive in their jeep on the road, the twister roars and destroys a barn right next to them. This movie was good, but if you want a realistic tornado movie, i'd recommened, Tornado Warning and Devil Winds.

"A Gale-Force Movie! The Special Effects are spectacular!" The real stars of this movie are the twisters for instance,a mile-wide 300 mph force of pure destruction is coming at you. the house rips apart piece by piece. A bellowing cow spins through the air. Tractors fall like rain. Finally, a 1500 ton gas truck becomes an airborne bomb. Man, I wish Warner Bros made a Sequel to this movie with the same cast! $26.09 Robert Zemeckis scored a huge hit with 1985's BACK TO THE FUTURE, a film that became a genuine 1980s classic and began a successful trilogy. Taking the teen comedy a place it had never been before, on a trip to the 1950s via the 1980s, and fusing it with a time travel adventure, the film quickly became a blockbuster and established itself as a high point of 1980s pop culture. This special boxed set contains all three of Marty McFly's and Doc Brown's adventures traveling back and forth between the 1950s, the 1980s, and the 19th and 21st centuries in Doc's customized DeLorean. $10.49 In director John Badham's WARGAMES, Matthew Broderick stars as David Lightman, a young hacker who accidentally logs on to the Department of Defense's network. Thinking that he's found a cool new computer game manufacturer, David plays checkers, chess, and other more intriguing games like Global Thermonuclear War. Realizing that their system has been tampered with, military operatives arrest him. However, the computer continues to play the "game" of thermonuclear warfare without David and generates the very real threat of World War III. In an attempt to prevent global disaster, David and his girlfriend, Jennifer (Ally Sheedy), search desperately for the scientist who designed the system before the goverment computer initates a full-scale nuclear war.
A landmark of 1980s cinema, WARGAMES was keenly tuned into its time. Computers remained a relative mystery in the early 1980s, as they were used primarily by large corporations and government agencies, but not by many individuals at home. The general public had already been warned of the danger of computer takeover in 1968 with 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and this paranoia grew as computers became more popular. The threat of communist takeover and nuclear war loomed large in the collective consciousness, before the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the cold war. Video games had become highly popular, however, and for a generation of Pac-Man and Space Invaders players WARGAMES combined the country's deepest fears with its biggest fantasies. Badham's suspenseful film brings those fears to light in an exciting, fast-paced film with a great cast (Broderick, Sheedy, John Wood, Barry Corbin, Dabney Coleman) and excellent special effects.

Twister review For Sale Pre-Order Now! Available: Tuesday, January 05, 2010
$10.00 The third in the wildly popular FAST IN THE FURIOUS series--a hybrid of fast cars, hot teens, and fetishized technology--gets a new jolt of energy and style courtesy of young hotshot director Justin Lin, who won raves at Sundance in 2002 for his look at Asian-American teens in BETTER LUCK TOMORROW. Leading man in training Lucas Black stars as sensitive rebel Sean Boswell, who, despite hailing from the poor section of town, vamps up his used car to drag race against the best of them. After numerous racing challenges won--including one against his high school's popular, wealthy quarterback--Boswell gets in trouble with the law one too many times. To escape confinement to a juvenile detention center, Boswell's military father ships him all the way across the world, to that most futuristic, tech-savvy of cities, Tokyo. There, he meets his match in the powerful, cruel D.K. (Brian Tee), who is not only the car racing star of the Japanese underground, but also related to several dangerous Yakuzas (gangsters). Complicating matters is Sean's undeniable (and mutual) attraction to D.K.'s gorgeous girlfriend Neela (Nathalie Kelly). The racing style, he soon learns, is very different in this strange land--a practice known as "drifting" that is more elegant and virtuostic than American-style demolition. Yet if anyone can take on D.K. and his band of Yakuza yeomen, it's this racecar rebel. All the pieces of the action movie puzzle, including sexy stars, nonstop action, and heart-stopping thrills, combine with a stylish aesthetic and energetic soundtrack to make another fine addition to a fantastic franchise. And director Lin is adept at rendering Tokyo a full-dimensional, culturally rich location, rather than a video game backdrop.
