Transatlantic Whirlwind Songs Whirlwind Music Review Average Rating: (3.4 out of 5 stars) List All 8 Reviews Good...but.... There's lots of good stuff here, yet it's off set by lame vocals(nobody can sing in this group) and lyrically gets a little too Christian preachy for me. And not even good Christian lyrics at that. but still worth a listen for the music. Submitted by dmayforth (West Mass,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 3 of 3 found this helpful.
Not Transatlntic... It's a Neal Morse CD! Not "Transatlntic" music. It's another Neal Morse CD.
Too bad TA couldn't write a new album together... Instead they gave us a Neal Morse album w/ Trewavas, Stolt (who's been on a Neal Morse past release), and of course Portnoy who has been on all the Morse prog releases. Sounds like a Neal Morse CD.
Not even close to the past 2 cds!
A good cd, just not "Transatlantic".
More of the same from Neal. Submitted by James (Nashville, TN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 3 of 3 found this helpful.
Finally, They are BACK!!! Finally the Kings of Prog Rock reunite with a 77 minute piece of epic music!!! Flawless musicianship on this CD, these guys still have great chemistry after an 8 year hiatus. BUY IT!! You will be amazed Submitted by Stephen M (Denver, CO) Was This Review Helpful? Great, accept a few 'religious' tracks Not as good as their first two albums, although most of it is outstanding good music. However, the tracks ‘Rose Colored Glasses’, ‘Dancing with Eternal Glory’ and the topper ‘For Such a Time’ (bonus) are pathetic. Neal Morse goes completely overboard, the moaning, the religious emotions; the lyrics ‘dark side’, ‘suffering’, ‘eternal glory’ and the ‘giver of live’ tell all. Not sure why the other three (in particular the other brilliant composer Roine Stolt) let him get away with it. Submitted by Leon (Doylestwon, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Worth every penny! This CD has everything you ever wanted from the next Transatlantic release. This music has a heavy side and a soft side and the way it all moves from one to the other is simply beautiful. If you're looking for something to expand your musical listening range, this CD will be perfect for you. You will not be disappointed. Submitted by mikedeitz (South Bend, IN) Was This Review Helpful? Whirlwind album
$12.99 The obvious label to put on this band is "supergroup," because it consists Roine Stolt of The Flower Kings, Neal Morse of Spock's Beard, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, and Pete Trewavas of Marillion, but that would imply that this is just another jam session. Despite the fact that these gifted musicians put this session together rather quickly, there is a natural cohesiveness and maturity that would suggest that they have been playing together for years. In fact, it could be argued that as a collective work this is as good, if not better, than any of the aforementioned bands previous output. The influence of early progressive rock bands such as Yes and Genesis are obvious, as are the references to each member's "regular" band, but it is the influence of the Beatles, which is felt both musically and lyrically, that shines through the strongest. The opener "All of the Above" is a 30-minute epic that stands as some of the best progressive rock music ever written. The only two compositions under seven minutes are the uplifting "We All Need Some Light" and the whimsical "Mystery Train," which in an ideal world would both receive significant airplay (they didn't). "My New World" is another epic and is the most obvious nod to the Beatles, while "In Held (Twas In I)" is a cover of the Procol Harum classic. The lyrics are intelligent and thoughtful without being pompous and the music is challenging and tight without being gratuitous. A progressive rock masterpiece. ~ Robert Taylor

Whirlwind CD music
$14.79 Principally recorded at Dark Horse, Nashville, Tennessee and Racket Club Studios, Buckinghamshire, England.
Transatlantic drummer and founder Mike Portnoy has been bucking and setting trends since the early '90s by immersing himself in progressive rock at a time when grunge and teen bands ruled. His primary band, Dream Theater, raised the bar for musicianship and complexity while helping to establish the progressive metal genre. Portnoy showed his depth and diversity by forming the critically and commercially successful bands Liquid Tension Experiment and Transatlantic. The latter's SMPTe proved to be a groundbreaking release by reviving the progressive sound of the '70s, while injecting an updated '90s approach. With this release, bandmates Neal Morse of Spock's Beard, Roine Stolt of the Flower Kings, Pete Trewavas of Marillion, and Portnoy continue to push this forgotten genre into newfangled directions. As expected, there is a surfeit of technical wizardry, but there is also an increased focus on rich harmonies, memorable melodies, and recondite lyrics. The lead vocals are shared among the four members in order to avoid the session sounding too much like a Spock's Beard recording, making this release sound more original than its predecessor. All four members offer unique talents, but Morse and Portnoy are the two who raise the band to a higher level. Portnoy, in particular, continues to be one of the most original voices on the drums, kind of like a John ...

Whirlwind album
$23.05 Special Edition CD includes the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs.
Dream Theater's tenth long-player is about as dense and challenging as any album in the band's discography and emphasizes not only the virtuoso members' stupefying musicianship, but also their most aggressive and thoroughly metallic songwriting tendencies. The sixteen-minute opener "A Nightmare to Remember" quickly establishes this agenda via frequently thrash-paced staccato riffing, some of John Petrucci's most blistering guitar solos ever, and the return of drummer Mike Portnoy's syncopated growls, which provide contrast for singer James LaBrie's soaring melodic elegance. "The Count of Tuscany" is a heady prog-metal magnum opus brimming with more ideas, notes, and time changes over 19 minutes than most bands bother with over a ten album career. In fact, "Whither," a tender ballad and mere babe at five minutes in length, is the album's only concession to commerce. Black Clouds & Silver Linings, ...

After moving to Seattle, WA in 2005, Kenny decided to end THE WITCHING HOUR chapter of his career but not without releasing \"After the Haunting Silence\", a cd that he was working on at the time he decided to \"change gears\". This cd is a collection songs that were leading him in what he describes as a \"new direction\". One focused on more atmospheres, and textures, and electronics as well, ...

| | Little Bit Of Paul Davis CD (1971)
Whirlwind music CDs
$12.55 The very title of Paul Davis' 1971 debut is a nod toward Bert Berns, the founder of Bang records and author of "A Little Bit of Soap," the 1961 Jarmels single Davis covered and brought within flirting distance of the Top 40 in 1971. Ironically enough, "A Little Bit of Soap" winds up being the song that seems out of step with the rest of the bubblegum pop-soul on A Little Bit of Paul Davis, as Davis recasts it as a bit of a sleepy groover -- nice enough, but not as appealing as the bright, snappy pop of the rest of the record. Like a lot of Bang's late-`60s/early-`70s output -- think Neil Diamond and Andy Kim -- this walks a curious line between AM bubblegum and adult contemporary soft rock, with the hooks coming from the former and the smoothness coming from the latter. Davis gives this a dash of Georgian soul in his phrasing, but that's just flavoring on this batch of bubblegum pop. Impressively, most of the record is written by Davis himself -- only three cuts come from other writers -- and he shows a real talent for propulsive, cheerful pop, but ...
