| | Joni Mitchell Court And Spark Vinyl LP Record Joni Mitchell Discography of CDs
COURT AND SPARK completed Joni Mitchell's transition from folk-singer to sophisticated rock auteur. In addition to her meticulously crafted melodies and evocative, image-rich lyrics, the songs here are breezy and immediately appealing. This is in part due to Tom Scott's L.A. Express, a sinuous jazz-based combo, but also to Mitchell's knack for pop hooks, which abound on COURT AND SPARK. The album's accessibility made it Mitchell's most commercially successful, yet the personal intensity and insight of her songwriting never wavers.
"Help Me" was a hit single, as was "Free Man in Paris," an expansive pop frolic that is reputedly a dig at industry mogul David Geffen. Mitchell returns to the terrain of piano balladry on "The Same Situation" and "Down to You"; yet even on these, as on the excellent social satire "People's Parties," one can hear the influence of jazz on her vocal phrasing and intonations. The rock-&-roll romp "Raised on Robbery" and the bluesy, comic swing of "Twisted" mix things up a bit, showing the artist's increasing ability to master and manipulate any form. COURT AND SPARK is one of Mitchell's finest albums, confirming her standing as one of the most important and subtle talents of the rock era.
All songs written by Joni Mitchell except "Twisted" (Ross/Grey).

Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.120) - Ranked #111 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "Mitchell settles into a folk-pop-jazz groove that remains a landmark of breezy sophistication..." Rolling Stone (6/22/00, p.134) - 5 stars out of 5 - "...An album that not only represents the culmination of Mitchell's folk-rock period but also signals the many musical experiments in her future....[It] was - and still is - [her] most commercially successful album..." Purchase Court And Spark CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Bob Dylan Christmas In The Heart CD (2009)
Court And Spark album
$10.09 After the initial shock fades, the existence of CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART seems perhaps inevitable. After all, the thing Bob Dylan loves most of all are songs that are handed down from generation to generation, songs that are part of the American fabric, songs so common they never seem to have been written. These are the songs Dylan chooses to sing on CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART, a cheerfully old-fashioned holiday album from its Norman Rockwell-esque cover to its joyous backing vocals. Apart from the breakneck "Must Be Santa," which barrelhouses like a barroom, Dylan doesn't really reinterpret ...

Court And Spark CD music
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims ...

| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Court And Spark songs
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual ...

Court And Spark album
$13.75 At times, it was hard to figure out whether Berlin were an average synth pop band trying to carve out their own niche or just a mediocre rock band jumping on the new wave bandwagon. Sure, they had some good singles and radio hits, but as an album band, they left a lot to be desired. Terri Nunn was beautiful and sexy, but it seemed like Berlin wanted to be more than just a commercial band with a hot vocalist: they seemed to be striving for greatness but settled for "that'll do." Unfortunately, they never had a chance to really prove themselves, breaking up after their commercially disappointing Count Three & Pray album, ...

Court And Spark songs
$15.69 The mixed-gender duo Ms. John Soda made big steps in the indie-electronica world with their 2002 debut, No P. or D., and with their follow-up full-length release, Notes and the Like, it's just as probable that they will continue happily down that path. It doesn't hurt that the two members, Stephanie Böhm and Micha Acher, both come from already well-established groups and are able to bring their collective expertise into crafting Ms. John Soda's music. They know what they're doing, and there is some fantastically catchy pop-electronica on the album ("Hands" and "Scan the Ways," for example). The songs themselves are fairly simple, often containing not much more than a ...
