(2 Customer Reviews)
To Plant a Seed, the first full-length release by We Came as Romans, is billed as a hardcore album with a twist. In addition to the expected guttural vocals, double kickdrum thunder, and heavy guitar riffage, the band devotes ample time to melody, with co-vocalist Kyle Pavone adding some crooning relief to the mix and producer Joey Sturgis layering the group's music with symphonic arrangements. Those looking to bang their heads will still find plenty of traditional hardcore elements here, particularly the horror-movie screaming of frontman Dave Stevens, but To Plant a Seed ultimately winds up as a somewhat confusing debut, its Christian-tinged message muddled by the reliance on minor-key progressions and throat-shredding vocals. ~ Andrew Leahey

To Plant A Seed album
$8.09 Talk about a strange trajectory, Sky Eats Airplane's debut album, Everything Perfect on the Wrong Day, was not only released exclusively online, at first (only making it to CD a year later, in 2007), but was recorded by a partial band consisting of just vocalist Brack Cantrell and guitarist/programmer Lee Duck. OK, perhaps this is in fact a very modern, new millennium trajectory, the way things are going. At any rate, this hardly posed a problem, fundamentally speaking, for the duo, given their chosen sound: electronics-based Nintendo-core in the vein of Horse the Band and Ghengis Tron -- which hardly requires a full complement of musicians to execute. But what did raise some concerns was the album's first half, which consisted primarily of minute-long song snippets ("By All Means, Captain," "Patterns," "Exit Row") that seemed to be only vaguely connected to each other, and, what's worse, weren't all that emotionally fulfilling, either. Luckily, longer, though anything but conventionally arranged, songs like "Honest Hitchhikers Asking for ...

To Plant A Seed CD music
$10.49 A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material ...

To Plant A Seed music CDs
$14.38 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced the set himself, intending to make them sound like a single show. The material leans, understandably, on his recordings with the Anti label. There are stellar performances here, such as "Get Behind the Mule" from The Mule Variations, "Trampled Rose" from Real Gone, and a haunting version of Leadbelly's "Fannin Street" from Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards, to mention just three of the 17 cuts here. But he goes back to his Island albums too. For instance, there are completely re-visioned readings of "Lucky Day" and "I'll Shoot the Moon" from 1993's Black Rider, and a killer -- though equally revamped -- version of "Singapore" from 1985's Rain Dogs. Musically, the performances ...

To Plant A Seed songs
$14.19 It's no secret that Sting is a serious man, so it's only logical that his holiday album -- his first new music since the Police reunion, not that it really matters -- is a serious endeavor, thank you. No niceties for him, no comforts of carols; he favors formal over familiar, writing madrigals, not ditties. It is music made by someone who lives in a castle, which isn't necessarily such a bad thing: the austerity is genuine, not affected, and the cerebral nature of the album is fascinating, albeit mildly so, as this is as sleepy as ...
