Longtime Aerosmith fans are likely to quibble about the set list here. How to pare down one of rock's all-time greatest and longest-running rock bands to 18 songs? No point in attempting to reword (or is that remix?) the words of Fat Camp's Bill Brewster, dance music scholar and ZEvolution's liner notes author: "Unlike a remix, which uses all the individual tracks from the original multi-track to create a new song, the re-edit uses only the finished master recording to re-organize the song into a more dynamic form." A project spearheaded by veteran U.K. DJ Greg Wilson, whose own work with tapes predated a wave of re-edits that (with the help of novice-friendly technology) permeated dance music during the 2000s' first decade, this disc takes a knife -- real or virtual -- to ZE, one of the premier left-field imprints of the late '70s and early '80s, best introduced on the expanded two-disc reissue of their Mutant Disco compilation. (Get that, at the very least, before this.) These re-edits don't necessarily put a more dynamic spin on the originals.
