| Another Great Mari Boine Recording
I really care for Mari Boine's singing when she is doing Joikes, and on an earlier CD commented that the one song which she sang as a crooner was a loser...she is not a great crooner! On this CD the music is not the typical Joike-laden music as before, but she has incorporated some Black African singers as well, but mixed them into her music very well. At first I was off-put by the music, but after several hearings it really has grown on me and I find it easier and easier to adapt to. I guess if our musicians didn't grow and change we would be disappointed, but so too can we be WITH change. Give this recording a chance and you almost certainly will be pleased. My favorite was the penultimate song, Lihkahusat (Entranced). The last song is a very very soft sprechgesang-voiced fragment of a poem by Emily Dickenson (When Night Is Almost Done). Excellent music by an excellent musician.
