| | Howard Devoto Jerky Versions Of The Dream CD (1983) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Cokie The Clown
$9.69 Erstwhile Buzzcock and former front man of post-punk outfits Magazine and Luxuria, Howard Devoto has always been somewhat difficult to peg musically. After disbanding Magazine in the early '80s, Devoto went on to pursue a short-lived solo career, resulting in his lone 1983 effort, JERKY VERSIONS OF THE DREAM. More pop-based than any of his previous efforts, the songs all feature Devoto's distinctive croon--a discomfiting mix of seduction and caustic menace. Like his material with Magazine, Devoto's lyrics are peppered with poetic allusions to politics, both personal and social. The slow building heat of "Cold Imagination" comes across like a post-punk quiet storm. Trapped in the deep freeze of his own mind, his anguished voice ...

Cokie The Clown
$18.99 I was born October 20, in San Francisco, CA. I came to Galveston, Texas in 1948, grew up here, and i've been calling it home ever since. My first taste of music was introduced to me in the 1st grade. I was in the school choir. After a few years, that old singing bug just infested me, and my love for music. So by the fifth grade i started my first band, back then we were singing all the top hits of the time, better known as "The Oldies". Over the years i mostly sang in church, never thinking it would go any further than that, Then in 1996, I started writing songs, not knowing where it was going to go. A lot of people told me i should sing my ...
| | Cleer What You Won't Do For Love CD (2009)
Cokie The Clown
$7.99 CLEER BiographyIn this day of explicit and in-yo-face lyrics and melody-less soul, it will be very refreshing for audiences to get an opportunity to listen to an artist whose music contains meaningful lyrics, passionate vocals, real instrumentation along with a sense of sophistication and soul. That truly talented, diverse newcomer is Clearthur Lee Jr. aka Cleer.Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Cleer represents the next generation of great singer-songwriter-performers. Vocally influenced and inspired by the likes of Ella Fitgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Barry White, Luther Vandross, James Ingram and Gerald Lavert – Cleer is a true musical Renaissance man. Some may even attest that Cleer’s vocals are part Smokey Robinson, part Maxwell with a nod of inspiration from Howard Hewett. And that’s a good thing! What makes Cleer so unique is that he is an artistic chameleon. Recording artist and accomplished percussionist, he is also adept in the fields of painting, drawing and sculpting. And, he has a love for fashion. “I think I’m just one big artistic expression,” he says. “It can go in any direction. I just live for that kind of stuff.”Into music since he could walk, Cleer says “I was born this way. Some things are just kind of inexplicable.” His mother was a gospel singer in their local church, and he credits Helen Mason, owner of the renowned Black Theater Troupe in Phoenix, AZ. as another individual who personally had a hand in his artistic development.Cleer’s album is an eclectic mix of up-tempo songs, ballads, and future classic gems—long missing music in the current adult urban contemporary radio scene. Not to be relegated to one format, Cleer’s musical appeal is cross generational, cross cultural and has garnered impressive success in a wide range of musical formats. Numerous notable songwriters have come on board to collaborate with Cleer. Among them are Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, Marc Kinchen , Will Smith, David Cater [sic] and Terrell Carter (known from his work in the Tyler Perry Madea plays). “I love the creative process,” states Cleer. “I love working with other people. I’ve been so accustomed to performing in front of a live audience, that getting in to the studio and recording was not only a great learning experience but a cool and cathartic one as well. It was a chance for me to exact many of the creative musical ideas that I had in my mind.”Atop those ideas is the CD’s first single, a feel-good, mid-tempo track titled, “So Good.” With its guitar-led melody, memorable hook and powerful vocals which impacted airplay and peaked at number three on over forty R&B soul and Adult Contemporary Radio Stations in America. Another album highlight is Cleer’s ode to special ladies, titled, “You’re So Beautiful.” Lyrically poignant, Cleer sings, “You’re so beautiful/You’ve got it all/You just need to find yourself/Get back to who you are.” Then, fast forward to the mid-tempo album track, “Perfect Man”. Currently climbing the charts “Perfect Man” is becoming an airplay staple. Along with the heartfelt ballad depicting a sad break up, titled, “I Don’t Wanna ...
