This isn't the Skynyrd I know....
There was a time when a Skynyrd song came on the radio it was easily recognized as a Skynyrd song. Not so anymore. The songs on this disc sound so "generic" for lack of a better term. Not that they are bad songs it's just they sound too "heavy" to be Skynyrd songs. They even have Rob Zombie and John5 contributing to the muisc...give me a break!! Bring back the ol' southern, barroom brawl type of music Lynyrd Skynyrd is really known for.

Still better than the rest
This is not my dad's Skynyrd and hasn't been since the crash.I do believe they are worthy of the name and deserve to carry it.Even if Gary Rossington is the only original member.This is a really good release and still better than any of the bands who are considered southern rock today.I have plenty of family from the south and their songs still relate to that simpler lifstyle.

Skynyrd sound old and tired , lets face it, if this was not Lynyrd Skynyrd the record company would have laughed this band out of the office ... Terry

Not Bad But Similar To Van Zant's Cd's.
I reluctantly picked up Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gods & Guns" hoping that band wouldn't have lost too much of it's steam with the deaths of guitarist Huey Thomasson and keyboard player Billy Powell. To my surprise Powell does play on this recording but Thomasson is definately missed here. Not that this is a bad cd, it's that it's more country than actual rock on most tracks, much like brothers Donnie and Johnny's Van Zant's several country cd's. Thank God I didn't spend the extra money on the Special Edition 2-cd set which consists of only six tracks (three are "live"). Listen before you buy.

SOUTHERN ROCK CONTINUES TO OVERCOME TRAGEDY...
I WAS REAL EXCITED, BEING A 'SKYNYRD' FAN FROM THEIR BEGINNING SOME 35+YEARS AGO, TO HEAR THAT THE BAND WAS COMING OUT WITH A NEW ALBUM AFTER 6-7 YEARS! AND,AS ALWAYS, THEIR MUSIC IS KICKING AND THE LYRICS ARE HEART-FELT EXCELLENT! A MUST FOR YOUR 'LYNYRD SKYNYRD' AND/OR MUSIC COLLECTION. THE PIANO RIFS AND PLAYING OF BILLY POWELL AND THAT OF BASSIST EAN EVANS WILL INDEED BE MISSED WITH THEIR PASSING THIS YEAR... BUT, I KNOW THAT JOHNNIE AND THE GUYS WILL KEEP THE BIRD FLYING! RONNIE IS UP IN ROCK'N'ROLL HEAVEN FEELIN' REAL PROUD!!!
