Unlike its 2002 predecessor Back in the U.S., Good Evening New York City doesn't cherrypick highlights from a tour, it commemorates a specific event: the inauguration of Citi Field -- the replacement for the now-defunct Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played a legendary show in 1965 -- in the summer of 2009. The circumstances may be different -- different enough to lead to a Billy Joel cameo on "I Saw Her Standing There," the piano man returning a favor from Paul, who played at Billy's Shea-closing shows in 2008 -- and McCartney might have two strong albums of new material to draw upon, but as an album, Good Evening New York City plays a lot like Back in the U.S. with a whopping 17 of its 35 tracks shared between the two titles. More importantly, the vibe is the same, with Macca delivering an expertly balanced and sequenced set with all the skill of the old pro that he is. Apart from the inclusion of "Mrs. Vanderbilt" and "I'm Down," there are no surprises, either in song selection or performance, but no surprises doesn't mean no satisfaction, and this is plenty entertaining

Good Evening New York City Music Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) This Old Guy Can Still Rock With The Best Of 'Em Paul & his band rock Citi Field in NYC in this new 2 CD/ 1 DVD set. My only complaints are the interruption (on the DVD) of "Only Mama Knows" with some woman expressing her excitement of seeing Paul. This stuff should NOT interrupt the songs. I guess Paul & his team don't understand that a concert performance film should be just that. The only other DVD complaint is that "I'm Down" keeps switching back & forth from the Citi Field performance to the Shea Stadium 1965 Beatles performance. Yes, Paul, we KNOW you were in The Beatles. We get it!!! Maybe if you really wanted us to relive the Shea performance there would be a new Beatles DVD of Shea. I'd rather see Paul & the band rocking without the distractions. These DVD complaints cost Paul a star. I really wanted to give him 5 but I couldn't.
Still, this is a great set at a great price. Paul's band is tight, and his voice is still pretty close to perfect. At 67, Paul McCartney has tons of energy.
All the usuals are here...Hey Jude, Live And Let Die, Yesterday, Let It Be, Drive My Car, etc... But there's the unexpected "A Day In The Life" and the nearly forgotten gem "Mrs Vandebilt". Maybe "Mrs Vandebilt" gets this one 4 1/2 stars! Submitted by Gordon (Springfield, CT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 3 found this helpful.
A must have !! Paul sounds amazing -- definitely pick this one up ! Submitted by Rich (South River NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 3 found this helpful.
Restless fab boy Paul's voice is still clear & powerful. Almost 70 yo, this time he dropped excessive keyboards and gave way to crunchy, heavy guitars. The result is superb. "Jet", "Let Me Roll It" etc sound tight and fresh. His renditions to fellow Beatles George & John songs ("Something", "Give Peace a Chance") are beautiful & inventive. Great album.
