five stars plus one extra for mark naftlin for producing this rare gem !! while it may lack in quality, which is not bad by any means, the louder it`s played the better it sounds !Chicago Blues; pure, raw, & unrehearsed. I was fotunate enough to hear Butterfield and band at one of the nightclubs where some of "Strawberry Jam" was recorded so its` format and material take me right back to a night in music always to be remembered. with a great selction of previously studio recorded cuts , the uncanned versions simply give the listener a sense of how together this great blues band was. highlights being "mystery train " you`ll never hear a train leave the station like that one !! and withstanding the hearing test title song " Strawberry Jam" is so original with all playing members adding their jams and riffs and notes by Butterfield that the listener has never heard or will ever hear except for on this disc. Money well spent , could possibly be a collectors item.

if your a fan of paul butterfield you will want this but if your looking for quality recordings of this band you will be disapointed. this is an audience recording of fair quality.
