| Another early fusion gem
And don't let the term "fusion" scare you as if it were some dirty word. I don't know what everyone's hangup with that term is. I think it is just a matter of how you define it. And it is as broad and general as saying "rock 'n roll" when you get right down to it. Fusion can contain practically anything. I actually like the term. Really good original early jazz-rock fusion began in the late sixties and this 1969 gem from Gary Burton deserves much more attention than it got, in my opinion. Very groovy and pleasant indeed.

| Rockin' Jazz with Electric Overlay
I agree completely with the previous reviewer that "fusion" is not a cliche or a dirty word. Along with albums like "Memphis Underground" by Herbie Mann (with hot licks by Larry Coryell) nad "Bitches Brew" by Miles Davis, this is one of the best electric jazz albums ever. Gary Burto n is at his best on vibes, including stunning electric vibes on "Vibrafinger." Ably assisted by three, count 'em three electric jazz guitarists: Eric Gale, Jerry Hahn & Sam Brown. And Bernard "Pretty" Purdie on drums. All at the top of their game. If your toes aren't tappin' to "Boston Marathon," you're either dead or deaf.
