This six-episode, historically-themed documentary miniseries from the English filmmaking team of Philip Nugus and Jonathan Martin (HITLER'S BODYGUARD) chronicles World War I (1914-18), a conflict with a death toll estimate of at least 10,000,000 soldiers. The project employs an unusual device in bringing the conflict to life: technicians have "colorized" the black-and-white archival footage of the 'Great War' to give the past a fresher feel. As narrated by Kenneth Branagh (HENRY V), the series relays the events of the war chronologically, its stock footage intercut with interviews featuring surviving World War I veterans, who discuss in vivid and often gruesome detail the horrors of living in the trenches and "going over the top" to fight. The series also makes full use of maps, diary excerpts, historical analysis, and much more. Bonus features include: a special entitled TACTICS AND STRATEGY, on the many ways in which new technology altered the landscape of war; a making-of featurette; biographies of key military leaders; a historical timeline; and a twelve-page viewer's guide.
