Disappointing
After a what i believe stellar debut Bon Jovi let fans down with this. The keyboard heavy and trying-to-fit-in rock songs make it a cheap attempt to repeat the wonders of their first.

7800o Fahrenheit album for sale "Please Remember Me" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. Tim McCraw won the 2000 CMA Award for Male Vocalist Of The Year. "My Best Friend" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. With A PLACE IN THE SUN, Tim McGraw, the son of legendary baseball player Tug McGraw, has hit a musical home run. The follow-up to his insanely successful EVERYWHERE, A PLACE IN THE SUN contains McGraw's signature mix of traditional country, humor, romance and rowdiness. McGraw has a real talent for choosing well-crafted, slightly off-kilter songs (from top Nashville talents like Walt Alridge, Phil Vassar, Hillary Kanter and Mark Nesler), and delivering them so convincingly that you can almost believe he's the one who wrote them. The 15 tracks range from the hard country of "She'll Have You Back" (the punch line is "...back to drinking in no time") to the heartfelt romance of "My Best Friend" to the sweeping grandeur of "Please Remember Me" (featuring harmonies by Patty Loveless). Highlights include "The Trouble With Never," the boisterous "Something Like That" and "My Next Thirty Years," a fantastic song about a man saying good-bye to his youth while he prepares, with some trepidation, to face the second half of his life. Fans may be disappointed to find there's no duet with McGraw's wife, Faith Hill. However, even with the lack of that crowd-pleasing element, A PLACE IN THE SUN truly shines. Principally recorded at Ocean Way, Nashville, Tennessee. Engineers include: Julian King, Dennis Davis, Erik Lutkins. Personnel: Tim McGraw (vocals); Larry Byrom, Biff Watson (acoustic guitar); Brent Mason, Michael Landau, B. James Lowry, John D. 7800o Fahrenheit buy CD music Recorded between 1984 & 2003. Includes liner notes by Michael Sweet. Throughout rock history, all great bands spawn quite a bit of similar-sounding offspring -- and the mighty Van Halen were no different. Throughout the '80s, a plethora of VH disciples appeared on the scene -- many of which happened to also hail from the same locale, Hollywood. Musically, Stryper were quite similar to the Van Halen boys, but vocally, singer Michael Sweet was more a kin to Styx's Dennis DeYoung. The pairing of both styles won Stryper a large following, and for a stretch of several years, scored several MTV hits, all of which are neatly compiled on 2003's 7: The Best of Stryper. While Stryper's lyrical message did not reflect either the party-hearty (Mötley Crüe) or the "demonic" (W.A.S.P.) bands of the era, they were cut from the same musical cloth. As a result, Stryper were known primarily as a rock band ("Soldiers Under Command," "Free," etc.), even though they also specialized in schmaltzy power ballads ("Honestly," "Lady," etc.). Also, there was the odd moment when both styles merged, such as "Calling On You," and Stryper get credit for the unlikeliest cover tune for a pop-metal band -- Earth, Wind & Fire's "Shining Star" (perhaps only outdone by the Bulletboys tackling Tom Waits' "Hang On St. Christopher"). With all the expected favorites included here, the 18-track 7: The Best of Stryper is a much better Stryper compilation than 1991's paltry Can't Stop the Rock. ~ Greg Prato 16 Classics + 2 New Songs. 7800o Fahrenheit songs All tracks have been digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (Summer 1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York). Slippery When Wet wasn't just a breakthrough album for Bon Jovi; it was a breakthrough for hair metal in general, marking the point where the genre officially entered the mainstream. Released in 1986, it presented a streamlined combination of pop, hard rock, and metal that appealed to everyone -- especially girls, whom traditional heavy metal often ignored. Slippery When Wet was more indebted to pop than metal, though, and the band made no attempt to hide its commercial ambition, even hiring an outside songwriter to co-write two of the album's biggest singles. The trick paid off as Slippery When Wet became the best-selling album of 1987, beating out contenders like Appetite for Destruction, The Joshua Tree, and Michael Jackson's Bad. Part of the album's success could be attributed to Desmond Child, a behind-the-scenes songwriter who went on to write hits for Aerosmith, Michael Bolton, and Ricky Martin. With Child's help, Bon Jovi penned a pair of songs that would eventually define their career -- "Living on a Prayer" and "You Give Love a Bad Name" -- two teenage anthems that mixed Springsteen's blue-collar narratives with straightforward, guitar-driven hooks. The band's characters may have been down on their luck -- they worked dead-end jobs, pined for dangerous women, and occasionally rode steel horses -- but Bon Jovi never presented a problem that couldn't be cured by a good chorus, every one of which seemed to celebrate a glass-half-full mentality. Elsewhere, the group turned to nostalgia, using songs like "Never Say Goodbye" and "Wild in the Streets" to re-create (or fabricate) an untamed, sex-filled youth that undoubtedly appealed to the band's teen audience. Bon Jovi wasn't nearly as hard-edged as Mötley Crüe or technically proficient as Van Halen, but the guys smartly played to their strengths, shunning the extremes for an accessible, middle-of-the-road approach that wound up appealing to more fans than most of their peers. "It's alright if you have a good time," Jon Bon Jovi sang on Slippery When Wet's first track, "Let It Rock," and those words essentially served as a mantra for the entire hair metal genre, whose carefree, party-heavy attitude became the soundtrack for the rest of the `80s. ~ Andrew Leahey This video compilation includes interviews of the band. 7800o Fahrenheit CD music Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York). Bon Jovi's 1984 debut not only became a blueprint for the band's multi-platinum releases of later years, but a definitive work for an entire genre. Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered BON JOVI continues to stand out from the pack. "Runaway," with its infectious hook and keyboard work from E-Streeter Roy Bittan, was discovered by a New York DJ and gave the band some early exposure. "She Don't Know Me" is a catchy mid-tempo rocker. "Shot Through the Heart" turns the hard-rocking pulse up a few notches, with Richie Sambora letting loose on the kind of solo that would be copied by a plethora of L.A. bands. David Bryan's keyboards, an integral part of the group's sound, work nicely on the melodic rocker "Breakout." At a time when synthesizers dominated the pop landscape, Bon Jovi used them to gloss a heavy-rock foundation. "Come Back" shows the enormity of the charisma and emotion that Jon poured into his singing. BON JOVI is a great debut by a band in its underground, formative stage; a street album from a band hungry to make it. Additional Tracks; Special Edition Recorded at The Power Station, New York, New York. Engineers: Scott Litt, Jeff Hendrickson, Larry Alexander. 7800o Fahrenheit buy CD music The Sweet Thing Vocal Association: Joanie Bye, Joanie Taylor, Lovena Fox, Sue Leonard, Cecille Laochelle, Linda Hunt (background vocals). Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York). After selling more than 12 million copies of SLIPPERY WHEN WET (and becoming the light-metal champions of the decade), Bon Jovi took its "Wanted Dead Or Alive" rock n' roll cowboy theme to the next level on NEW JERSEY. The album was produced by Bruce Fairbairn and engineered by Bob Rock-two masters when it comes to maximizing a band's sound. Pledging allegiance to the band's home state, NEW JERSEY reeks of attitude, emotion, and the need to party. "Lay Your Hands On Me" is a venerable cock-rock anthem, while the hooks and chorus of "Bad Medicine" 'continued the band's Top 10 streak. "Blood On Blood" tells the story of childhood friends who maintain their bond to the end. "99 In The Shade" provides the musical backdrop for a group of friends taking an impulsive July cruise to the nearest shoreline. NEW JERSEY closes with "Love For Sale," a drunken sing-along about romance gone sour. The album represents Bon Jovi at the band's creative peak. Like a dream meeting of Bruce Springsteen and Clint Eastwood (with some Guns N' Roses thrown in for good measure), NEW JERSEY maintains Bon Jovi's harder-edged early sound while elevating the band to superstar status. 7800o Fahrenheit songs True troubadours of arena rock and pop-metal, Bon Jovi were not only still standing in the 2000s, they were still releasing albums of original material that packed much of the melodic wallop and anthemic muscle of their efforts from the '80s and early '90s. A case in point is 2005's HAVE A NICE DAY, which finds the band mining a harder rock sound and producing bigger, more sweeping choruses than ever before. Despite the classic Bon Jovi sound, however, singer Jon Bon Jovi's lyrics are by turns thoughtful (he even conjures the specter of Bob Dylan on "Bells of Freedom," a nod to Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom") and romantic ("Wildflower"). Though the mix doesn't always work, Bon Jovi sounds plenty energized here, and young-at-heart enough to still crank up the volume. HAVE A NICE DAY sports the streamlined rock punch and pop smarts on which the band has built its reputation. Additional Tracks; Special Edition Liner Note Authors: Ilene Schreibman; David Wild.
