| Closer to Doom (MUCH closer)
Doom-laden Bigelf cranks out the Stonehenge-like power chords, fuzzes it up like Buckwheat, and then sears the thing into your head with accomplished solos aplenty, superb harmony vocals, and an astrological journey to the hemp fields of the netherworld. This band, sadly "undiscovered" for far too long, is supremely talented and can effortlessly oscillate between Sabbath style sludge, Beatles-like melody, Pink Floyd's affinity for all things lunar related, and their own distinctively constructed sounds. "Frustration", my personal favorite on this, is vaguely reminiscent of Blue Oyster Cult's "Cities on Flame" and one of the absolute BEST gut crunchers for a slow to mid pace slice 'o' power doom. In short, the song perfectly encapsulates the angst-ridden emotion of which it speaks. Despite the retro imagery and influences, Bigelf sounds contemporary, relevant, and fiercely dedicated to their songcraft. These riffs are so hot that if played in Salem, Massachusetts, the long haired granola budgies would "poof" up in sky-licking flames and in the spirit of spontaneous combustion. I love this kind of brialliantly conceived metal and anyone who asserts that Bigelf aren't one of the most accomplished and interesting metalworks on the planet, well then, they're just bloodless little liars! Play at night for a little down home incisor trading!
