| erroll garner, the genius
I agree with Arnold van Kampen; this concert is one of his greatest recordings but the "Amsterdam Concert" (1964) is even better and I know that because I was there and I do have the mastertapes of the complete concert (appr. 3 hours). Only 36 minutes is released on a LP and the rest is unreleased ( too bad). It's time that recordingcompanies pay attention to this. Jan van Diepenbeek, major Erroll Garner collector and historian

| One of his greatest recordings.
Of course "Concert by the Sea" is one of the greatest records in the history of jazz and one of the best selling ever. Erroll was popular all over the world and not only in jazz-circles. That's why he was negleted by some jazzcritics like other popular jazz-artists: Dave Brubeck and Oscar Peterson. "Concert by the Sea" deserves certainly his 5 stars, but it is nor Erroll best. I think "Amsterdam Concert" (only on LP, and hard to find)is even better. It's a shame that recordcompanies are not bringing out more of Erroll. The complete Amsterdam concert should be out on cd, not only for this generation, but certainly for generations to come. One day people will see the historic value of records like this and will understand that artists like Oscar Peterson and Erroll Garner were unique. The future will learn that Peterson and Garner are as important as Mozart and Bach. Enjoy concerts like these and notice that you are listening to music-history! | Can Listen Over and Over and Over
I have Eroll Garner's Concert by the Sea on record and tape and have listened to it for years. The sound never gets old to me and I can literally listen to it continually, forever. While I like SOLO, Concert by the sea has just the right tunes and sound to satisfy my taste for excellent piano jazz.
