Showdown album for sale Product Description
Showdown album for sale by Isley Brothers was released Nov 30, 2010 on the Sony Japan label. The Isley Brothers' 1978 album, SHOWDOWN, may have arrived towards the end of their initial (extremely long) run of hits, but it still finds them at the top of their game. "Take Me to the Next Phase" is one of the funkiest things they've ever done, with slap-happy bass and growling bass synth adding up to a ferocious bottom, while on the other side of the spectrum, "Groove With You" sports a smooth, tender sound that could rival any contemporaneous track by Smokey Robinson. ...See Full Description

| Music white men can enjoy In a time where rock giants brought you ad-nauseum music such as "Billy, don't be a hero", and Grand Funk goes strictly commercial, or ELO does Don't bring me down, out pops Showdown. Just listen too the Isleys tight organization and intrinsic mixing of bass and percussion. It was like "Man, how CAN you rock that long". Not like put-me-to-sleep John Bonham drum riffs, they rocked. Thats it, They rocked. By Marc (Everett, WA) This review is for a different format. |
| Another Isleys classic This may have been the last classic album The Isley Brothers released in the 1970s. Not quite available in the United States, I paid $30 for the Japanese import of "Showdown!" -- and it's worth every penny. The Isleys deliver another classic throwdown, the No. 1 single "Take Me to the next Phase." And as usual, Ronald Isley's cool and assuring voice is prominent on classic ballads like "Groove with You," and midtempo jams like "Coolin' Me Out" and the title track. If you can get your hands on it, it's worth the money. It's on par with their previous blockbusters. By amycj (Spartanburg, S.C.) This review is for a different format. |
| Timeless What can I say but Thanx... I was 13 in summer of 78 and each summer I eagerly awaited each Isley release. I love all of their 70 releases but I have always felt that Showdown was their most nasties, stankiest, rump shaking, funkiest release. This is top shelf for me. Probably #1 of the 70's releases. I am so grateful that this joint is finally available. But as well you can get your honey to listen and let Brother Ronald do the talking.
