Opus Eponymous album for sale Product Description

Opus Eponymous album for sale by Ghost Sweden was released Oct 18, 2010 on the Plastic Head label. By all rights, one would expect a band that hails from a heavy metal hotbed like Sweden, signs with a British heavy metal label, and pens songs steeped in Satanic liturgy, then performs them in frightful disguises while maintaining secret identities, to be a heavy metal band. But Ghost's 2010 debut album, Opus Eponymous, confounds such expectations by rating no higher than a three or four out of ten on a third millennium scale of metallic heaviosity, if you catch the meaning. Opus Eponymous CD music contains a single disc with 9 songs.   ...See Full Description

Definitely different
Excellent cd. While there is some satanic overtone to it I have listened to it many time and have not become possessed. "Ritual" is a great song and "Stand by him" and "Satins prayer" remind me a little of early Pink Floyd. The instrumental "Genesis" is a good song to end it with. If the lyrics don't bother you too much than this is a good. cd. Something definitely different.

Merciful fate, Voi Vod and Blue Oyster Cult all rolled in to one! This has renewed my alliance with what TRUE METAL is all about. I'm so sick of all the super speed riffy guitar and drum crap with growl screaming (so-called) Vocals. What a buncha CRAP thats out there. This is a FRESH start with something melodic, thoughtful and just plain HEAVY AS HELL! Yeah, the whole satanic thing is old, but I somehow think if they were singing about flowers, bunnies and rainbows, it just wouldn't be the same. Hats off to GHOST! May they reign SUPREME for years and years to come! Hail GHOST!

It's musically smart in the way that metal should be spooky, evil, with just a dash of 'do you think these guys are serious?' Even if Ghost weren't espousing the glories of a certain dark lord, the songs would still hold up beautifully, which should be an indication of how strong OPUS EPONYMOUS is.

Musically great but lyrically inept
Ghost's debut is musically great (BOC, Mercyful Fate, Voivod influences abound to varying degrees) but the lyrics are largely dedicated to not just singing about satan, but worshipping him. In other words, little or no effort went into the lyrics and the result is pure flushable drivel. In stark contrast we hear outstanding metal arrangements & melodies that definitely stand out from the proverbial pack. The satan "thing" has been done to death and the themes presented here are as tired & worn out as it gets. If this band found themselves a proper lyricist to accompany the excellent music, they might actually have something. For now though, worship of the eternal butane-drinking king of infinite loserville is just plain mind-numbing & simple-minded...sad to say.
