Eric Clapton Complete Clapton CDs (2007) Top Seller
Very Best of the Rat Pack CD music Released in conjunction with Eric Clapton's autobiography, COMPLETE CLAPTON provides the soundtrack to the original guitar hero's decades-spanning journey. Over the course of two discs, this collection tracks Clapton's progress from the ground-breaking psychedelic blues-rock of Cream and the short-lived supergroup Blind Faith, through his Duane Allman collaboration, Derek & the Dominos, and on to his prolific solo career.
Clapton is personally responsible for a huge chunk of the classic-rock canon, and it's all included here. The primal crunch of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love," the bluesy riffarama that is Derek & the Dominos' evergreen "Layla," the country-tinged twangfest "Lay Down Sally"--you name it, COMPLETE CLAPTON has it. This set doesn't stint on later material, either, like Clapton's Robert Johnson tribute and a duet with J.J. Cale. With the possible exception of his very early work with John Mayall, there's nary a career highlight missed on this comprehensive anthology.

Frank Sinatra Sinatra: Vegas CDs (2006)
Very Best of the Rat Pack songs There's a reason why Frank Sinatra and Las Vegas are so closely linked: Ol' Blue Eyes was supremely comfortable in Sin City, allowing for many of his greatest performances over the decades, as revealed on this excellent 2006 four-CD/one-DVD collection of previously unreleased material. While the first two discs present Sinatra at the Sands during his 1960s heyday, the third and fourth discs consist of '80s concerts. Naturally, the '60s recordings find the Chairman of the Board in top form, as the deep-voiced crooner breezes through jazz/pop classics such as "Moonlight in Vermont" and "Come Fly with Me," the latter part of a remarkable set with Count Basie and his orchestra. However, the '80s shows are also impressive, revealing that Sinatra could still stun an audience late in his storied career, a notion further backed up by video footage of a swinging late-'70s concert at Caesar's Palace.
Experience The Chairman at his pulse-pounding best in this 4-CD/1-DVD boxed set of unforgettable live performancesin Las Vegas, all previously unreleased. The DVD features his concert at Caesar's Palace, May 1978, along with backstage material and 2 bonus commercials. The CDs include concerts at the Sands, November 1961 and January-February 1966; Caesar's Palace, March 1982; and the Golden Nugget, April 1987.

Frank Sinatra Romance: Songs from the Heart CD (2007)
Very Best of the Rat Pack CD music Frank Sinatra never stopped singing love songs; arguably, it was what he did best. From the start of his career, Sinatra positioned himself as a singer of romantic songs, and he was believable in the role -- who could fail to fall to that voice? The holders of Sinatra's other major-label output -- Sony and Warner Bros. -- have previously released collections of the key love songs Sinatra recorded for them, so it's surprising that it took Capitol this long because many of his greatest romantic ballads and up-tempo swingers were the product of his tenure with that label (a good many of them were found on 1955's momentous Songs for Swingin' Lovers! album). Romance could easily have been built around that album alone, but only three of its songs are here; wisely, the compilers chose judiciously from Sinatra's other '50s and early-'60s sides for the label as well, including such essentials as "Day by Day," "As Time Goes By," "My Funny Valentine," "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning," "All the Way" and "Where or When," each of which became a cornerstone of his repertoire. Sinatra was not a wide-eyed optimist when it came to singing of affairs of the heart, and the compilation benefits from the inclusion of tracks that are melancholy in tone (his In the Wee Small Hours album could be downright depressing, but therein lied its honest appeal). That may not make this the perfect Valentine's Day collection (it was released in January, 2007, in time for that year's annual onslaught of love comps) but it does make it a more well-rounded survey of the legend's love song work for Capitol. ~ Jeff Tamarkin
