| Still Ahead Of Its Time In '72 Berry Gordy surprised the world when he gave the most gifted child the most lucrative contract and Stevie immediately delivered, and music hasn't been the same since. Motown production values, for years, had been considered among the best in the industry, but this masterpiece still sounds amazing. What's with that bridge in 'Sweet Little Girl'? Could 'Happier Than The Morning Sun' be prettier? Could 'Seems So Long' be any sadder? 'Superwoman' is a vamping and coda symphony. This is a sexy, soulful, record full of harmonica and all types of great keyboard and vocal tricks, in 1972- Boy-oh-boy! By St.Dvy (Windham, Me.) This review is for a different format. |
| classic Stevie! "Music of my mind" was originally released in 1972 and was very soon followed by one of the Wonder`s greatest works:"Talking Book";altough not as good as the latter,"Music of my mind" contains a good deal of great music(vide "Superwoman"!);everybody, who likes Steveland Morris, should have this cd in his collection! | futurist stevie motown had it coming and they knew it. stevie is free from his contract when he turned 21. this album is the futuristic for 1972 stevie wonder. superwoman is a beautiful 2 part track. warm analog synths and buzzy feiton's jazz soloing are icings on an already lovely cake. keep on running is faster funk. happier than the morninig sun is only a clavenet and a voice but it is also a lovely song that reminds me of easy by lionel richie. evil closes things on a high note. berry gordy must have been angry but neither stevie nor anybody care cause this is a start of the golden era of funk. | A Journey Through Stevies Mind? Before it's time is the perfect definition. You grant Wonder complete artistic control of his music, plus access to innovative synth machines and this is the end result!!! If it sounds as futuristic as it dose now in 2005, imagine what heads were thinking in 72'. One of Steveland's more electric, "tripy" albums. Still, nothing less than beautiful!!!! Yes, another gem for the heads that know!!!! Agape I p.s: check out my other reviews. Included are other Stevie Wonder Albums, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Mars Ill, LMNO, Madlib Inc.,and many more. By alphamale1984 (Long Beach, Calif./ Taylorsville, Ut.) | Music of My Mind-One Hit and A Bunch of Misses Not a good album. A far cry from "Innervisions" or "Songs from the Key of Life". With the exception of "Superwoman" most of the songs are pretty dry, and not worth listening to. My advice is to stay away from this album. A much better purchase would be to buy the "Music Aquarium" from Stevie if you like "Superwoman" and don"t get stuck with an album of crummy songs.
