Never to be Repeated. Good sampling of one of the most unique bands ever. Not likely that this brand of music will ever return. Good that it is presented here. By leogo1 (Cape Cod MA.) This review is for a different format.
Early Kenton A very pleasant cd and a polished intro to Kenton's early work. Highly recommended. By johnwpedley (Worcester UK) This review is for a different format.
Kenton's Best Ever I've been a Kenton fan since the mid-fifties, familiar with all his recordings and have been hoping for this release on cd for years. It's by far the best of all Kenton's albums. Bill Holman's arrangements were a perfect fit for Kenton's sound. By Vin (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) This review is for a different format.
VIVA KENTON! That man is such a great arranger and a great leader with some of the greatest musicians ever... Rosolino, Giuffre, Bob Cooper and so and so. By a reviewer (Michel Ramonet from South of France) This review is for a different format.
Kenton's Best Arguably this was Stan Kenton's greatest band. Away from the bombast and propelled by Mel Lewis on drums and the arrangements of Bill Holman. This band swung like crazy and was much looser than some of the stiff agregations Stan fronted. Soloists galor with Charlie Mariano & Bill Perkins standouts. Mariano's feature Stella By Starlight is a triumph and Perkin's Yesterdays is a bench mark for the tune. But the rating is for the band hear it on the abstract What's New and I've Got You Under My Skin. Great Big Band Jazz. The four additional tracks don't measure up to the rest of the album, but still has some nice Perkins. By a reviewer (New England) This review is for a different format.
