| Phenomenal Hard Bop
Phenomenal Hard Bop music scores by Morgan. I became fascinated with Lee Morgan when viewing a DVD of a performance he was in with the great jazz drummer Art Blakey, Benny Golson, and pianist Bobby Timmons - you guessed it -- Moanin'! His solo playing with Golson carries some very smooth transitions, almost like one mind. After that, I heard the title title cut of this CD while listening to online radio. Again, I was mesmerized and very appreciative of the length inorder to get a really good feel for the mood of the players. It reminded me of music from the far East - a return to Morgan's West African roots maybe, as Art Blakey had actually done for a while to infuse African drum rhythms into his playing. Mr. Kenyatta speaks directly to Morgan's influence by the Jazz Messengers - Hancock's piano playing reminds me of some of Horace Silver's funky blues infused piano licks. All in all, if you love hard bop, you won't be disappointed with this CD. A shame that Morgan's life ended so early. He was definitely onto something great in terms of his musical sensibilities. No telling what all he could have brought to jazz had he just had the chance.

| beautiful as Lee's photo portrait
Poetic and rithmic, also my discovering record of the calm grant green. The atmosphere of the first track is very unusual indeed, quite hypnotic

| Essential Hard Bop
The lineup, the arrangements, the clarity and precision are all top notched. This has made it into my favorite list after two listens.
