Grand Funk's Best This has got to be the best GFR album -both musically & lyrically. Don Brewer's contributions are the best. Too bad it's their last album before the break-up. By lokomotiv70 (singapore) This review is for a different format.
Grand Funk At Their Best! The final Capitol records album shows incredible maturity in songwriting, expert musicianship, and emotional and powerful vocals. It is simply an incredible album that benefits greatly from the 24 bit remastering. The opening track, about the loss of Mark's cousin is one of of his all time best compositions. You'd have to be dead (no pun intended) to not be moved by its sobering and powerful message, not to mention the dynamic music. There are a number of other rock classics here: "Dues," "Love Is Dyin'," "Talk To The People," and "Take Me." The bonus tracks: "Bare Naked Woman" is a bit out of place with the rest of the album, but Mark manages to bring across a message against a makeup caked woman's face in favor of a bare and natural look. The live rehearsal of "Genevieve" is an interesting peek at the fully developed official version. All in all, a classic rock album that deserves many accolades. Don't hestitate for a second in purchasing it! By a reviewer (Highland Park, NJ, USA) This review is for a different format.
Born To Die Has Life Not the most consistent album I've heard from GFR, but still has some good songs on it. This album is an interesting addition to any GFR fan's collection. Darker than most of their catalog. Highlights are Dues, Sally, and Take Me. By b-runny (Boston, MA) This review is for a different format.
You'll be pleased A lesser known album (the label didn't spend a lot to market it) but not to be missed. The musicianship equals Phoenix; the originality is comparable to the "Fantastic Four" (On Time, Grand Funk, Closer to Home, Survival). If you don't have this in your GF collection, something's missing. By mnd4bsns (Dallas, TX, USA) This review is for a different format.
Going...Going...Gone An aptly titled album. After the rousing pop success of "All The Girls In The Girl Beware, Grand Funk Railroad" finally jumped the tracks. Features some of Mark Farner's most amateurish songs. Don Brewer, on the other hand, in his all too brief appearances is outstanding. "Dues" is probably his greatest vocal acheivement. If you are a Grand Funk compleatist, by all means buy "Born To Die." If not, they have a lot of great albums available. By a reviewer (Detroit, Michigan, USA) This review is for a different format.
