| Mostly for the fans I guess? Still it's pretty good. This collection of live solo songs by Jackson Browne, accompanied by himself on guitar or piano, is pretty satisfying. The best renderings are The Barricades Of Heaven, These Days, Your Bright Baby Blues and Too Many Angels, but quite a few of the other songs are well worth listening to. I would recommend this CD to fans and neophytes alike. By hanssd (Stord, Norway) This review is for a different format. |
| the way it's meant to be heard There's nothing like a live performance, and nothing like an acoustic live performance. This is the next best thing to being there. I got the the feeling of being in someone's living room-that's a GOOD thing- the audience is obviously having a marvelous time. I was a Jackson Browne fan before I even knew who he was-waaaaaaaaay back in time, through Brewer and Shipley, who recorded and released "Rock Me on the Water" on Shake Off the Demon, the same year as Jackson released Saturate Before Using-1972. Unfortunately, this song, and some other favorites were left off of Volume1, which only makes me yearn for Volume2. The songs which ARE on Volume1 are fantastic!!! | Absolutely beautiful JB is a melancholy man, and this solo concert with him just playing guitar and piano to some of his best songs only brings out the ache in his soul. The few pieces of dialogue in the CD are amusing and establishes a sense of intimacy with the audience. This album was not very well advertised, and I was a little sceptical about buying it. But as it turns out, it's one of those albums where every song is a trasure and an album I can listen to over and over. By krazykows (Philadelphia, PA) This review is for a different format. |
| Songs from the heart Without electric amplification & a large backing band, this album portrays a performer with heart & soul. It has memerised me. Bring on Volume2 Mr. Browne. By shigra (Richmond Hill, NSW , Australia) This review is for a different format. |
| An Absolute Must for All JB Fans What a wonderful piece of work. I'm happy to see the designation "Volume I," as that leads one to believe there will be more. And there should be. This leaves the listener wanting more. Jackson Browne in raw, unprocessed, pure acoustical form. The playing is solid... nothing more than the songs require. The singing is pure Jackson Browne. And the lyrics? Truly one of the greatest poets of modern times. Throw in a little sense of humor in the between-songs banter with the audience, and you've got a very tasty treat.
