| warm and organic this c.d. has a very warm, glowing kind of sound. besides john's singing and guitar playing, everything else slowly weaves in and out. it's a beautiful record. it's very alive and organic in the way in which it was recored. there is a heavy air surrounding it all. | **** Good, Good can describe it....... Curtains album I'll do a more specific track-by-track review for you- The Past Recedes- One of the best on the album- obviously one of John's favorites; he made a video. The accompanying vocals just before the chorus sound like a barbershop quartet almost, in a good way-its cool. Good Singer-songwriter song; shows the theme of the album. Ascension- Decent song, the beginning of the song is quite boring until it opens to a fantastic chorus. Then the song repeats itself and is great until the end when the background singers and frusciante are bellowing, "Ummm La la la" and it is actually quite annoying. OVerall a good song. Lever Pulled- My favorite song on the album. John's voice in this song is just simply amazing. If he always sang like this he could take over Kiedis's position in RHCP. Fantastic Song. The middle of the song goes into abstract almost distant songs for about 30 seconds which is kind of cool. Wow is all I can say. A Name- A slow song; it's pretty straightforward and simple with good background vocals. It's decent. Ends with harmonica which is kind of cool I guess. The Real- I find this song a small bit annoying really. Its a decent song, but it has a poor structure. John's vocals are a bit too jumpy. Not too bad though. Control- Wow, the only actually bad song (In my opinion) on the album. It starts out with 15 seconds of silence and then there is a short guitar and singing part. This continues through the whole song. About 3/5th's of the song is silence.... so ???? Your Warning- Good song; showcases John's singing and piano work. Nice relaxing slow tune. Anne- Quite a good song. Stopping and Starting guitar sounds like Control- except the spaces are filled in with vocals thankfully- sounds cool. There is a sweet duet guitar solo at the end. Hope- A song with a great theme; hope- ironically sang sadly in a minor key. Other than that good song with cool piano riffs and guitar. Time Tonight- Very open vocals. Backup consisten through the whole song, sounds great with occasional backward quitar solos behind vocals- they actually sound very cool. Leap Your Bar- A song centered around Frusciante's piano playing. He's pretty good. It is surprising how many instruments he can play. Great Singer-songwriter song. It seems like John can create any type of song and this is an example of this. Wow. Great CD overall- I spent some time on this review; I hope it's helpful. If you like this CD at all Check out Inside of Emptiness. It is in my opinion John's best solo album. The only one better than this.
