| Another masterpiece... Is a masterpiece. The Cure did make a CD that sounds phanomenal for his age... By inanccayit (Hamilton,Canada) This review is for a different format. |
| Classic Cure, one the best As a fan of the Cure since the mid-1980s, Seveteen Seconds stands out as one of the best albums of their career. Moody, meaningful and melodic, with a more agreesive edge that Faith, this album is a testament to the creative writing and musical direction seen in the early days of the Cure. If you enjoyed Faith and Ponography, rest assured you will love this album. By dpatti (Green Brook, NJ, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| Vintage Cure This album is what the Cure is really about. It's much more somber and depressing; unlike anything the Cure came out with during the late 80's and 90's. Looking for music under the vein of My Bloody Valentine or Joy Division then this album is it. "The Forrest" is one of the best tracks. | template I recently began realising what an innovative period 1980 really was. It was a time of new sounds and the 1970's were well and truly over. Music was increasingly electronic - even heavier darker alternative music (of which this album is an excellent example) became ever more so. The album sets the tone for what was to follow later on in the decade for The Cure. An excellent fusion of programming, synthesizers, guitars, drums and bass (especially the pin point accuracy of master bassist - Simon Gallup.) He acts as the perfect foil to Robert Smith, his stage manner (jumps and moves around a lot) contrasting with the undead Smith, who does't seem to need to move to get the crowd going (if the 2002 Trilogy concert in Berlin is anything to go by.)Anyway, songs like M, At night, A forest, are absolute classics. A telling example of great guitar and basswork, complimented by good (at times muted) synthesizer effects. My only question is - what went wrong in the music industry in the early 1990's, when albums like this from the 1980's were in circulation. In a word - techno (and hip hop). More than one word. | Time machine Iremeber the early 80 s because of this LP. 15 years later i played it again after buying the CD, thinking it would have dated but Wow if anything it sounds even more dynamic sombre and quite beatifull compaid to the modern day stuff a must buy By rascott (jo burg south africa) This review is for a different format. |
