Strong yet gentle, Clear as Bell
Odetta's strong voice still sounds good and she tells a great story. As a folk singer Odetta along with Josh White and a few others was just the very best. It's good to hear her voice again. This CD has a wide variety of arrangements, from Odetta & guitar to big band. A great collection. If you enjoy traditional folk music, get this one.

a soaring vocalist unlike no other
I had heard of Odetta through those she influenced and I now know why she was such a huge inspiration. She inspired Dylan to play the acoustic instead of the electric and she is the reason why Janis Joplin sings the way she does. If you listen to this CD you'll see the passion and energy she put into every one of her songs, and these are among her best. At times she can show both great tenderness and great sorrow. You get caught up in her amazing vocals and raw guitar playing. Definitely worth buying if you appreciate true talent.
