Best of the This album is definately the best of the "Hagar" era albums, as well as one Van Halen's all time best. Only their debut album in 1978 had hotter tracks. By a reviewer (Wallingford, CT) This review is for a different format.
How about remastered version I would give a remastered version 5 stars.I used to do a lot of cruisin' to this cd. They need to re-issue the Van-Hagar cd's.Already have the 6 re-issues on Van-Roth. By Terry (Lynchburg,Va.) This review is for a different format.
Van Halen at its Peak! 5150 is really when it all came together for Edhead and the Eddies. The first time I heard this one, I couldn't stand it, especailly after 1984, which is arguably their finest at their most raw. Nevertheless, they truly did have chemistry and magic on "5150." At first it was difficult to accept the "Shammy", but after I found the Live video of these "Fahqwagawds" in '86, I realised the obviousness of the truth, Eddie could really, really write soulfull hooks and melodies, he wasn't just a scream Machine. That was probably the dillemma with DRL. They never, ever played a ballad at all with dave, he couldn't make it happen. If it was dave's small singing range, almost no technical skill, or his strangle hold on Mr. Edwardo, there was NO WAY in San Diemas, Calif. that DRL could have sung "Dreams." Now don't get me wrong I like the quality of DRL voice MUCH more than I like "Shammy's". "Salami" just happens to be the better singer. "Best of Both Worlds" Great, great tune...a little reminescent of "Celebration" but hey it was party time, mang. There's technically not a bad song on "5150"...I really dig "5150" as well. That song grew on me, like the album. The sound quality is really rough, but that was fitting considering what was coming out in '86. everrthing sounded "FAKE"!!! "5150" and "1984" are two albums that are really prequel and Sequel. They were perfectly executed in a sloppy rock and roll fashion. OU812 was a let down sonically and song-craft wise. I don't personally own it, but I've heard it...I can't believe eddie didn't have to pay the beatles royalties, ont the song , "finish what you started" I mean, C'mon, guys, "yes, we're going to a party, party." CLEAN ripoff... But hey ya'll HAD good taste... ANDY...P.S. where is that new album, dudes?!?!!??!?!!? By a reviewer (Austin, Tx.) This review is for a different format.
Classic!! What more needs to be said? Van Halen with Sammy? Classic!! The best!! A CD where every song is great! By a reviewer (Grand Rapids Mi) This review is for a different format.
| Excellent CD There is the catchy "Why Cant This Be Love" is great as is "Dreams" and "Love Walks In." My favorite song is "Summer Nights", a nice mix of Eddie's guitar, Alex's power drums and good harmonies. I like every track on this CD, a very good buy to mark a new era for Van Halen.
