Low Country Blues album Product Description
Low Country Blues album by Gregg Allman was released Jan 18, 2011 on the Rounder label. Given his place in the pantheon of American rock music, Gregg Allman's solo career away from the Allman Brothers Band has been generally disappointing. Low Country Blues songs Perhaps that's why it took nearly a decade between his previous album, 1997's Searching for Simplicity (its title alone indicates his frustrations) and 1988's over-produced yet underwhelming Just Before the Bullets Fly. Low Country Blues album A whopping 14 years later, Allman joins forces with roots producer to the stars T-Bone Burnett, hoping that some of the latter's mojo can rub off on a singer who is one of the great white soul and blues vocalists in rock music. Low Country Blues CD music For the most part it does, as the duo choose 11 relatively obscure covers from classic artists such as Bobby "Blue" Bland, Junior Wells, and B.B. King that have clearly influenced Allman's musical approach. Low Country Blues music CDs The backing is organic but far from stripped-down with horns, multiple guitars, and even background vocalists supporting the singer's patented crusty growl. From the opening raw thump of the ominous Sleepy John Estes' "Floating Bridge" to a peppy yet intense take on Muddy Waters' "I Can't be Satisfied" and a fiery reworking of Magic Sam's "My Love Is Your Love," Allman sounds invested and inspired by this material and his musical surroundings. ...See Full Description

Low Down Blues The man sure can sing the blues! Gregg's vocals are front and center right where they belong, with a terrific band backing him up. If you like Robert Plant's Band of Joy cd, you'll probably love this one. This solo cd is very different from The Allman Brothers Band's more recent work. This cd has a more traditional blues sound with mostly laid back songs. By dkrooney (Tofield, Alberta)
Gregg Allman Review I have been a very big Greg Allman and Allman Brother fan for over 35 years. Gregg still sounds very good for his age. I last saw him in concert about 3 weeks before his surgery. He hasn't lost anything on stage and has an awesome band! By heyjoe1 (Vinita, Ok , USA)
Great Performance/Atrocious Recording Maybe I got a bad copy? If you're already a Gregg Allman fan, you'll love this albums material, buuuttt, my copy is so bass heavy that I can't enjoy listening to it. I hope to find another copy to try. If it was mastered this way it's a shame, because the material is great! My copy is a five star album with a one star sound. By cbell2005 (Buchanan, Ga.)
Great I found exactly what I was lookin' for.........C.B. By 76charliebrown (Holt,MI, USA...)
change up The T-Bone production with heavy bass and drums may bother you some but it fades after a couple of listenings. The Bramhall guitar and Doctor John's piano work very nicely. Gregg may be the best he's ever been. His vocals are clean , pure and unaffected. I'd give it 5 but I miss Dan Toler. By JDA (Georgia)
