Illumination Illumination is a fantastic cd. I love it. I love anything that Josh sings. He has a fantastic voice I wish him success with Illumination. Looking forward to his next cd. A fan Denise Cook. By denisecook (Cornwall Ontario, Canada) This review is for a different format.
Well Done Josh! I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of both the music and the lyrics. I really enjoyed the album. Perhaps I "got" the message in most of the pieces too. I place it close to the caliber of my two all time favorite vocal artists - John Denver and Neil Diamond. Kenn Schultz, age 75. By MandK (Tucson Arizona) This review is for a different format.

a little disappointed. I loved his Noel so much and thought it would be just as strong, but it's not. Still, Illuminations is poetic and pretty. By heidi8334 (NY, NY) This review is for a different format.
BEWARE-NOT TYPICAL JOSH GROBAN Illuminations album I have a number of JG's previous albums which have all been excellent, but I would have to rate this album as his worst effort and more of an embarrasment than anything else. Josh has gone in a completely different direction here and for the most part, abandoned the lush, quasi classical style which previously showcased his phenomenal lyrical voice in favor of a stripped down, more folk oriented style. Unfortunately, he does not excel here because this style is not a fit for his naturally classically oriented insturment. He co-wrote most of the songs, but unlike his collaborations with the pros on previous albums which were high quality efforts, this songwriting is weak and forgettable. Stylistically, these mediocre songs don't do much to showcase his immense vocal talent. Yes, he can sing them, it's just that it isn't anything special and certainly not the exhilarating experience listeners have come to expect from him. The only exceptions that are the saving grace for this album are 3 classically styled songs which he performs with his characteristic flair. One, L'Oro Dell 'Addio is very operatic and his performance is exquisite. There is also a song in French & another in Portuguese that are ok. Other than that, the folk ballad songs are mediocre, lacking in both the emotional intensity and musical inspiration which have won him legions of fans. I would caution potential buyers to listen to samples of this cd prior to purchase to avoid any disappointment. By marybeth.mccoy (Los Angeles) This review is for a different format.
