Band of Joy album for sale Product Description
Band of Joy album for sale by Robert Plant was released Jan 11, 2011 on the Rounder label. Robert Plant revives the Band of Joy name for his new album, co-produced by and featuring Buddy Miller, whose fine guitar playing and presence on these tracks bring it close to being an actual collaboration. Rolling Stone - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[W]hat's most striking is Plant's vocal versatility.... The two most striking songs are the most left-field, both penned by the brooding husband-wife indie-rock band Low." Entertainment Weekly (p. 139) - "Plant sounds vocally reenergized on this covers-heavy follow-up to his Grammy-winning Alison Krauss collaboration, RAISING SAND... " -- Grade: A- Billboard (p. 28) - "[T]he Plant-Miller original 'Central Two-O-Nine' is a train song so authentic in tone that it almost sounds like a Johnny Cash chestnut." Mojo (Publisher) (p. 94) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The tender, propulsive take on the late Townes Van Zandt's 'Harm's Swift Way' is a nice touch.... | The Great Plant Voice With A Great Band The previous Plant collaboration with Ms. Krause was a sure cure for insomnia, but this puts Plant back in my good graces. The songs are much better, the band is fantastic, and the accompaniment of Patty Griffin on vocals is a plus. Granted, not a rocker Zeppy-like disc, but plenty Joy-full to hear (you did catch the pun, right?). Listen up and enjoy the elder statesman of music. | Aging gracefully It takes a lot of guts to change from the great howling singer of the seventies to a even greater singer today. I say this because Plant takes these songs and transforms these into a slow burn, and thats whats makes them kick ass. We could just get a remake of Zeppelin, instaed we get a extension. I believe a song does'nt have to be loud and fast to be heavy. These songs are very heavy because of the way they churn along. This cd is a very fine effort. | NOT AGING AT ALL -Plant in his artistic prime!!! Have owned this album over 2 months and I finally get it. This is certainly not fast food. Sometimes we are too hasty to judge/review albums. Although I respect other people's opinions must admit I find a certain reviewer's assessment of this great work somewhat bizarre to say the least. I always knew Robert Plant possessed an amazing talent, however now I realize that he is completely brilliant! Shame on me for it taking so long to sink in. Oh and by the way there is nothing 'graceful' about Robert Plant - he is cutting edge and breaking the mold constantly. Certainly plan on picking up the vinyl edition once it becomes available.
