Dave Brubeck's TIME OUT ranks alongside Miles Davis' KIND OF BLUE as one of the few advanced jazz masterpieces to achieve great commercial success. In fact, the widespread popularity of TIME OUT, with its cool-toned ambience, smooth style, and elements borrowed from classical music, helped make modern jazz a mainstream phenomenon. Time Out CD music The ubiquitous "Take Five" may be overplayed, but that doesn't diminish the joy of its complex melodic hooks, its perfectly executed solos, or the swinging slink of its 5/4 signature. "Blue Rondo a la Turk" collages Mozart, cool swing, and Brubeck's own classically oriented piano style, and the airy, delicate "Everybody's Jumpin'" showcases the lyrical splendor of saxophonist Paul Desmond Time Out music CDs. With bassist Gene Wright and drummer Joe Morello keeping the tricky rhythms agile and swift, the Dave Brubeck Quartet blended complexity and accessibility for pure jazz pleasure on TIME OUT, an album everyone should own. UK reissue of this 1959 Jazz classic. Strange as it may seem, Time Out was not that highly regarded when it first got released. Indeed, CBS chief Goddard Leiberson often stated that he took something of a chance in agreeing to release it and initial reviews were not entirely complimentary. Slowly but surely, however, Time Out picked up support, mainly from the buying public, who propelled the album to the #2 spot in the US and subsequently onto becoming the best selling Jazz album of the year. Its UK performance was a rather more modest single week at #11, but 'Take Five' reached the Top 10 when lifted as a single. Recorded at Columbia 30th Street Studios, New York, New York on June 25, July 1 & August 18, 1959. Includes liner notes by Dave Brubeck and Steve Race. Timeless recording BUT...
It seems that the engineers decided to leave the original master tapes as originally recorded, therefore, on a high-resolution system you can hear the tape hiss - disappointing. Also, this is a stereo SACD, not multi-channel.

Even squares will dig this album!!!
This album still gives me goose bumps. A classic jazz album for people who don't even like jazz. It belongs in every musical collection.
