1958 was a good year Stan Getz With Cal Tjader CD music This may be Stan Getz ,Cal Tjader's overall finest recording with a hint of the bossa wave that was soon to come. Surrounded by a top notch rhythm section of pianist Vince Guaraldi and the propulsive drumming of Billy Higgins, Stan (tenor sax) explores some jazz classics of yesteryear on this memorable, relaxed and swinging date. Everything works here with Stan in prime form, and Cal's glorious offering his usual dose of grit and soul. Highly recommended. 'I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face' sets this this set apart from other dates and joins my ever-growing collection of My Fair Lady "improvisations on a theme" songs. Bravo to the Super-Audio releases in the Fantasy catalogue,. By martin.montes (bedford, tx) This review is for a different format.
Surprising, and yet familiar... I am so glad to have found a remaster of this, as the original CD was mediocre at best. Great playing, great tunes, and fun. Everytime I hear "Ginza Somba" I imagine they all had these big grins on their faces. Great stuff. By telfotc (PNW, USA) This review is for a different format.
Too Short I was hoping for a copy of the album I had in the early 60's. The CD has only 9 pieces. The 33 1/3 album had more. I remember it was red. I also remember I played it a lot -- wore it out. By oceanbeachwalker (Ocean Park, WA, USA) This review is for a different format.

Freddie Hubbard Without a Song: Live in Europe 1969 CD (2009)
Stan Getz With Cal Tjader songs Never before available, these 1969 live recordings capture the trumpeter Freddie Hubbard at the height of his formidable powers. Working with a basic quartet including the fine pianist Sir Roland Hanna, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Louis Hayes, Hubbard blasts through seven fiery numbers, including his mentor Dizzy Gillespie's "A Night In Tunisia," Red Garland's "Blues By Five," and a free jazz excursion called "Space Walk." With Ron Carter on board, the virtuosic band bears more than a passing resemblance to Miles Davis's celebrated post-bop quintet active around the same time. The musicians stretch out considerably on these lengthy tracks but they are attuned to one another throughout, and though Hubbard has been criticized for his high-power, blustery technique, here his playing is rich and focused, even lyrical, as evident on the standards "The Things We Did Last Summer" and "Body And Soul."
First time available are these live recordings featuring "Body and Soul", "Hub-Tones", "A Night In Tunisia" and more. 7 tracks
