Mayhem is a smash-'em-up racing game with forgiving, arcade-paced action and distinctly stylized graphics. Mayhem review The destructive driving takes place in open arenas, as well as on twisting tracks that encourage collisions and spin-outs. The four main modes of play include traditional demolition derbies and figure-8 "Banger" races, as well as a pole-position "Eliminator" mode, and a "Domination" mode, in which racers try to knock one another into a pit and out of the fight. The game includes 120 customizable vehicles, in six classes: sedan, wagon, coupe, truck, monster truck, and muscle car. New levels are unlocked with "Mayhem" points, earned by doing break-away damage to an opponent's car. The game's unusual visual style gives the appearance of racing through a sharply detailed two-tone cartoon. The look lends itself to the game's optional three-dimensional effects, which use conventional methods designed to work on standard television sets.
