Betty Blue review Product Description

A French cult classic, Betty Blue (37°2 le matin) was an international smash when released in 1986. Directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix (Diva) and featuring an indelible screen debut by Béatrice Dalle, Betty Blue hypnotized audiences with its uninhibited sexuality and all-consuming vision of amour fou that defined youthful passion for an entire generation. An intimate portrayal of obsessive love, Betty Blue is the story of Zorg (Jean-Hugues Anglade), an aspiring novelist who gets by as a handyman and Betty (Dalle), a beautiful, unpredictable temptress who turns his life upside down.   ...See Full Description

much much better than the theatrical version
i strongly recommend this to people who loved this and didn't like this. coz this long version can possibly change the story from the short one. the theatrical version is too short actually, and betty's emotion is little weak on that. but for this version, you can see her strong emotion and feelings. very touching love story you must see.

tragic love story, touching drama, NOT a comedy!
The director's cut is long but if you watch it till the end, it's a rewarding experience. I was so drawn to the two major characters and at times disturbed by the female character's crazy outbursts, the film really didn't feel long at all. The blind love the male character has for his lover makes you question the disconnection between people nowadays. In order to 'protect our feelings', many of us either choose to have casual sex and not fall in love at all, or 'fall in love' with every second person we encounter and then dump them in a week. Besides the much talked about sex scenes, I think Betty Blue has more than that to offer.

The Odyssey of Betty and Zorg
Betty Blue is the unhinged and obsessional girlfriend of Zorg, a young man who lacks the confidence and ambition to succeed on his own. He works as a handyman for his rent and he says he's happy with things the way they are, but once had hopes of being a writer and the leftover novel that Betty discovers represents both his failure to succeed and the vehicle by which she hopes to make him a success. After a dispute with the landlord, they escape together, with no plan and almost no money and enjoy many adventures together. Betty's behaviour, and Zorg's, become increasingly erratic and by the end of the movie, Betty is beyond salvation while Zorg has gained the confidence to succeed. Great performances by everyone; the 185 minute version keeps you interested and surprised all the time despite its length. A great little classic, I'll be watching it many more times. There is also a 177 minute version and a 2 hour release, but either of the longer ones are the way to go. I can't imagine how an hour could be cut from the film without seriously damaging it.
