Starchild album Product Description

Starchild album by Teena Marie was released Apr 13, 2011 on the EMI Japan label. With its bold blue of-the-era cover art, 1984's STARCHILD proved to be Teena Marie's biggest record by offering up an appealing fusion of synth-heavy pop, R&B, and funk. Starchild CD music Led by the inescapable smash hit "Lovergirl," the album was the first major success for the expressive vocalist (born Mary Christine Brockert) after her very public '82 split with the Motown label. In addition to the vibrant "Lovergirl," STARCHILD also features the emotive ballad "Out on a Limb," the groove-laden title track, and "My Dear Mr. Starchild music CDs Gaye," a touching tribute to Marvin Gaye that was issued mere months after the soul icon's tragic death. Starchild songs Even deeper cuts on this set, most notably the giddily funky "Help Youngblood Get to the Freaky Party" and the energetic "Jammin'," sound like they could've been chart-toppers, resulting in one of Teena Marie's finest albums. Although STARCHILD was followed by the much-maligned EMERALD CITY, an ambitious yet awkward concept record, the R&B star assuredly returned to form with '88's NAKED TO THE WORLD. Japanese only paper sleeve pressing. Includes bonus material. Sony.2011. .

It's No Wonder This Album Went Platinum!
Starchild album This album, the BIGGEST SELLING album of Teena Marie's career next to "It Must Be Magic," finds the pioneer writer, composer, arranger and producer at an interesting crossroads; one in which a more rock-influenced sound is explored and executed to great results. With the opening smash, "Lovergirl" anchoring one end of this very important release, we are taken through more similar harder-edged, Funk meets Rock-influenced tunes in the creepy "Help Youngblood Get to the Freaky Party," the desperate, "Out on A Limb," which would be this album's 3rd single and then later go on to become a Quiet Storm Format classic and the frantic "Alibi." The rest of the CD finds us in an R&B friendlier place, however, the rock influence is still very evident in the 2nd and 3rd singles, "Jammin'" and "Surrealistic Pillow," which sounds very Prince-like. A classic boy-girl duet is featured in "We've Got to Stop Meeting like This" w/Ronnie McNeir (a very gifted vocalist)that recalls something that may have appeared on Ashford & Simpson's marvellous "Street Opera" from 2 years prior in a very well-crafted, tender love ballad. Closing out this awesome recording is "Light," a short, sweet and just as empowering little Gospel hymn a la Lady Tee. This CD is REQUIRED LISTENING for anyone wishing to acquaint themselves with the "Epic" stage of our beloved Ivory Queen of R&B and Soul from 1984.

a classic teena marie album from the 80's
I remember this album back in the late 80's and enjoying the one song I had liked so much was "we've got to stop meeting like this" when one of my family members had the original vinyl LP back then. I purchased this title on cd back in late 2000 and sort of took myself back in time to when I had enjoyed listening to the particular song that I loved so much when I was little.
