| DVD quality Blu-Ray...nothing to write home about... Steve Morse - Sects, Dregs and Rock 'n' Roll video If you are a Morse fan, and already have the DVD, save the money as you will get the same quality video wise in this Blu Disc release, they just changed the menus and period... the video quality is the same crap as the original one, a real shame I have to be always the "guinea pig" and get the Blu-Rays to test them, as opposed to read any previous review.... | REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Steve Morse - Sects, Dregs and Rock 'n' Roll film As stated by 'Fresh', it's like being at a Dregs/Steve Morse concert... (only having the privilege of a front row view and backstage pass together)! This is a REAL show; no distracting 'bells and whistles', no choreographed or staged shots. What you see is the greatest (IMO)contemporary guitarist/composer Steve Morse totally enjoying being with his fellow bandmates live on stage. Every member is in the 'spotlight', no overblown ego's as you see too many times with other artists. As far as sound quality, I had no problem hearing Steve, either watching/listening to it through my home theater system or on my computer. The song list is great and their performance of Jerry Goodman's 'Brick Chicken' is a mind blowing, libido enhancing experience... LOL... watch it along with your better half! ;) It's like getting three videos in one; the Dregs in New Haven, CT., Steve Morse along with Dave Larue and T. Lavitz in New York City.... and Morse's interview is like he's in your living room. My suggestion: view this video wearing a quality set of headphones... (it's just like being there). | Fresh!!!! Steve Morse - Sects, Dregs and Rock 'n' Roll review Never mind the "Nay-Sayers," you GOT to get this if you are a Dregs fan, Morse fan, or guitar fan. Granted, the first part (the Dregs Concert) doesn't provide all the bells and whistles of today's spit and polish made for DVD concerts. It kind of reminds me of a video tape of a "Yes" concert I have from 1973. Still, it's very watchable and VERY entertaining. The camera angles are not the greatest. I guess you could compare it to actually "being" at a Dregs concert and moving around the venue. No matter - it's a GREAT concert to watch! The second part is very cool, especially when Morse brings out bassist Dave LaRue. Get ready for Steve to show off his classical training on classical guitar, as well as his amazing skill when he straps-on his electric and plays the amazing "Tumini Notes." Finally, the interview with Steve at the end is a rare and exciting glimpse of the greatest guitarist (in my mind) ever in his own words. I've only seen Steve play live twice - in 1987 with Kansas and in 1989 with the Dregs. However, now, with this DVD, I can enjoy his talent - and that of his bandmates - anytime!!!! Get this DVD and you will NOT be disappointed! By Jeff (Ashland, OH, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| Jesu(classical thing...) Steve performs Bach's "Jesu", a hard to play classical piece that Steve does beutifully. If your a "Morse" fan, you should own this DVD just for that performance alone. By gtrsuite (North Attleboro, MA) This review is for a different format. |
| Greatful But Disappointed Fan I'm a huge Steve Morse fan, so I was thrilled when I heard about this release! Now that I've had a chance to watch it, I'd have to say that I am disappointed with this DVD. The picture quality of the Dregs show isn't very good. The Steve Morse Band show is without the drummer. Again, I'm a huge fan, so I'm thrilled that this DVD was released. I think it could have been a lot better. By a reviewer (Birmingham, AL) This review is for a different format. |
