Japanese director Toru Matsuura makes his J-horror debut with the atmospheric frightfest SYNESTHESIA. Scripted by Yuji Sakamoto (TOKYO EYES), the film unravels the connections between three disparate individuals who suffer from the titular sensory condition: a police officer (Yosuke Eguchi), a serial killer (Masanobu Ando), and a young woman (Aoi Miyazaki) torn between the two.
Thiller? not really Despite having a good cast and a unique idea, this felt a bit too "made for tv" to induce any kind of anxiety or in fact wring out any kind of emotion... with unique subject matter like this, it left me wondering what an auteur like Takashi Miike COULD have done to this considering his turn at television awesomeness that was MPD Psycho.
