Troy review Product Description
Troy movie was released May 10, 2011 by the Warner Home Video studio. With soaring photography that circles from above then swoops in for the action, TROY is Wolfgang Petersen's majestic presentation of the classic Greek legend. It tells the story of an epic battle over Helen (Diane Kruger), the queen of Sparta, who is kidnapped by her lover Paris (Orlando Bloom), the prince of Troy. This infuriates Helen's husband Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), whose brother Agamemnon (Brian Cox) convinces him to invade Troy. ...See Full Description

| Great movie... ... and I'd give it more than three stars if the director's cut were not better. That version did not edit out the beautiful breasts of Diane Kruger. Don't you just HATE censorship!! A few over-the-top performances aside from the main characters, it was still quite entertaining (if not COMPLETELY true to the Illiad). | Good Picture! Always a great movie! And on Blue-Ray EVEN BETTER! By moises.padilla (El Paso, TX, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| A much more "fleshed out" storyline This extended version of TROY gives much more depth to characterization, action, relationships, and (for those who care) nudity. The roles of Ajax, Achilles, Hector, Paris and Helen, among others have all been expanded and enhanced. The entire film has now benefited from a more humanistic and relevant stance. There is a greater sense that we are dealing with REAL people and not just actors playing a part. For this reviewer, there was an immediacy and personal quality to the movie that made it far more involving than its theatrical counterpart. Once again, one must question the editing directives of the Hollywood "suits" when it comes down to determining a film's running time. Not content with ruining many a music score with their uninformed interference, they now force too many movies into a time-linked straight-jacket to their detriment. A recent classic example is KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (and possibly KING KONG and ALEXANDER, to name a few) which was far better in its Director's Cut DVD release. At times, you feel as if you were watching a completely different movie than the one you had already seen. For the "new" TROY, highly recommended. | Poor movie except for ONE actor This movie plays havoc with the history of the Trojan War, and it completely avoids the great role played by the gods and goddesses (and it completely ignores the real cause of the war: the judgment of Paris and subsequent stealing of Helen as a result of that judgment). Brad Pitt is a little comical. Even his ear lobes are buff! The really fine acting comes in only a few moments and it is from the superb Peter O'Toole playing King Priam. An actor like this makes those around him seem even more mediocre. By thomasdonaldorr (Columbus, GA, USA) This review is for a different format. |
