Diana & Marvin album for sale Product Description

Diana & Marvin album for sale by Marvin Gaye / Diana Ross was released May 31, 2011 on the Universal Japan label. When this DIANA & MARVIN was recorded in 1973, both Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye were at their commercial peak, although artistically they were heading in different directions. Diana & Marvin CD music Nevertheless, their vocal blend was superb, so a duet album made both musical and sales sense. The resulting product was not only a chart hit but stands up well alongside the better known duets Gaye recorded with Kim Weston and (especially) Tammi Terrell. Diana & Marvin CD music contains a single disc.   ...See Full Description

I found a gold mine!
I had looked for this CD for many years in stores and they never had it in stock. If you love Marvin and you love Diana, you're going to love this CD. A classic!

a classic ruined by re-mixing and revisionism
Unfortunately the team at the "new" Motown, in their zeal to rewrite history, have re-mixed these songs to feature (or should I saw market) the career of a dead black artist (the kind record corporations seem to love the best) Gaye at the risk of Diana Ross'performance which shone so brilliantly in the orginal release mixes of these songs. Originally, producer Gordy wisely toned down Gaye's over-singing and over-"souling" and featured Ross' subtle stylings; in the process redefining the meaning of soul music. Look for the original mix of this classic on eBay.

Underrated classic
Diana & Marvin album for sale Any fan of Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye should own this album. Diana & Marvin CD music It has suffered from comparisons to Gaye's work with Tammi Terrell which is really unfair. (Marvin & Tammi may have been the greatest duet partners to ever grace the pop charts. Their chemistry has never been topped. ) The album "Diana & Marvin" remains a fascinating portrait of two superstars whose personalities are never far removed from their music. The tension between the two that surfaced during the recording of the album is evident on the best tracks: "My Mistake (Was to Love You)," "Don't Knock My Love," and the glorious "Just Say, Just Say."." You Are Everything," and "Stop, Look,& Listen," also prove to be two fine showcases for the dueling vocalists. The song list is remarkably consistent. Gaye's intro to "Pledging My Love" is worth the price of admission alone. Many people have chosen to undermine the talents of Diana Ross. I suspect the criticism is rooted in her reputation of being a difficult diva. It's a shame her achievements are often overlooked. She was one of the first African American performers to be embraced by the public. She paved the way for many young singers today. Her interpretive skills were at their peak during this time period. "Lady Sings the Blues," recorded just two years earlier, remains a remarkable testament of her talent and no one can erase the charm of her best singles with the Supremes. Many of the tracks on "Diana & Marvin" recall the early days of Motown. There is an endearing simplicity to these songs that invites repeated listens. Niether artist would go on to record music as light hearted as this again. The remastered CD features four bonus tracks that seem more tailored to Ross's singing style. You can hear Broadway calling on "The Things I Will Miss." Gaye still delievers the punch, especially on the disco version of "I'll Keep My Light In My Window." Overall, the album's charm rests in the performers themselves. We are reminded of why we fell in love with them in the first place, even if they didn't fall in love with each other. An underrated classic.

Plain & Simple (Marvin's The Man)
Marvin's vocals are as honeyfied and deliciously sweet as ever, but Ross as usual, leaves you wanting more. Her vocals are no match, for the Master... Marvin makes the album and totally and completely outsings Ross. There's something to be said, when the Prince of Motown himself, cannot make you sound any better and that is she simply does not have--THE VOICE! For a true taste of Marvin's talent as a duetist check out his timeless material with Miss Tammi Terrell (the best-as irresistible as Tammi herself!), Miss Mary Wells (also beautiful!), and Miss Kim Weston (great!)If you get this album, try to tune out Ross and just listen to the beauty and the splendor, that is Marvin (the only real talent here)!!!... This album has great songs and production, and beautiful vocals from the Prince himself (what's not to like--oh yeah, Ross)....
