This *IS* the US release with added Japanese booklet & Obi!
(4 stars as a Yes record, 2 stars removed for value) As a customer from the UK who is prepared to pay a premium for Japanese CD pressings I am dismayed to receive this official Japanese issue of Yes' "Relayer" only to find that it is in actual fact the sealed US digipak (complete with the legend "Made in USA") with -on the outside- a Japanese lyric booklet and a Japanese Obi which states "ASSEMBLED IN JAPAN. MADE IN USA. JAPANESE BOOKLET PRINTED IN JAPAN". No question that this is the official Japanese issue and that there has been any intentional misleading here... but this product IS the US edition, exported to Japan, repackaged for the local market, and re-imported to the US -no doubt at great expense to CD Universe- and sold accordingly. Nearly four times the price for the exact same US digipak with an added slim booklet (which I cannot read) and an Obi. Disappointed particularly because according to Returns Policy it cannot be returned as a non-defective import product.

Give it up, already!
I have been a Yes fan since they began, in the late 60's. I cannot understand this remaster after remaster. Someone is making big bucks and it isn't me. Let me explain. With each remaster that is made, the luster of the original recordings is lost forever. I cannot hear any difference in the recording of these as oppossed to the originals. If you have a good sound system, the originals recordings sound even better. The only reason to buy these new remasters, is for the new artwork and digibook design which is outstanding, hence my two star rating. My suggestion to the band itself. If you want to get people of today, into your music of the past. Go back into the studio and re-record all of the classic music using modern day equipment. Now wouldn't that be something original? Other than that. I won't be buying anymore Yes remasters in the future,to make the band any richer than they already are, just for the beautiful artwork. Your move.

Yes's Masterpiece
1974-1976 Was the pinnacle of the art/prog/fusion period. During these years each major band created their most complicated, creative, sublime, and epic work, their rite-of-spring. After this peek, most of these bands became uninteresting, writing smaller pieces and songs, rehashing old ideas with new technology, leaving their masterpieces on the pedestals, never trying to outdo them. Relayer has remained a gem, withstanding the test of time. It is by far the masterpiece of Yes. Yes's early years have great song writing and a lighter feel. The Wakeman years peeked with Close to the Edge and fizzled with the well intended Tales of Topographic Oceans (I do not hate Tales, Give me the master tapes and I'd leave about 18 minutes on the cutting room floor, fixing it (mostly Wakeman solos)). Then Moraz breathed a new life into yes and Relayer was born. I love this album for its almost perfect mix of textures and moods. It has a primal attitude and a vital heartbeat. And, when it relaxes, it does so perfectly, without sap or pretense. This album is tasteful and very skillfully executed. Relayer is not easy listening music. It is a study. And the more I study it, the more I hear. Other masterpieces during this period: Yes / Relayer Tull / Passion Play Chick Corea RTF / Romantic Warrior King Crimson / Larks Tongue in Aspic Rundgren / Utopia (the first one (really)) Mahavisnu / Visions of the Emerald Beyond Zappa / Too many to list Enjoy

The Solo album
This album has several individual solos that are so unique and fun to listen to. A great release that seems as though it was ahead of it's time.
