Obscured by Clouds album for sale Product Description

Obscured by Clouds album for sale by Pink Floyd was released Oct 06, 2011 on the EMI Music Distribution label. The last in Pink Floyd's series of 1970s film-inspired works, OBSCURED BY CLOUDS, like much of the band's music, has a cinematic feel. Obscured by Clouds CD music In retrospect, however, the album sounds like a warm-up for--or even a collection of high-quality outtakes from--Floyd's next and greatest record, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. The opening title track is the sort of proto-ambient music that Pink Floyd helped pioneer and, with its spooky slide guitar, sounds uncannily like some of Eno's work with U2. Obscured by Clouds CD music contains a single disc.   ...See Full Description

A Very Enjoyable and Critical Album
Obscured by Clouds is a critical moment in the Pink Floyd catalog. It is the bridge between the zenith of the original Pink Floyd sound and their total breakthrough into the mainstream arena. The band still had the ability to be lax and do what they wanted with their music without seriously considering what others thought of it, and the outcome was very good. The album was completed in a very short period of time, yet the quality of the music and lyrics are definitive, appealing, thoughtful. This was really the last time the Floyd got the chance to experiment with varying sounds, types of music. Some funky, some silly, some very soft and flowing, and some rockish tunes. The lyrics are well done, especially considering the deadline they had. David Gilmour's best writing in his Floydian career comes off in "Childhood's End," a very thoughtful and moving piece. "Wot's... uh the Deal?" is a great fan favourite, lyrically fantastic, very well sung, and mixed well with the music. Wright has one of his few stand out pieces, a very bright moment, with "Stay." "Free Four" shows the beginning of Roger's cynical and somewhat "intellectual" songwriting, yet it is expressed over a very cheerful and almost silly musical background, which makes the track quite ironic. His lyrical voice begins to take a more steadfast direction. Also in the song is the first mention we find of the death of Roger's father, which plays a great part in later Floyd albums. The album is a conglomeration of styles and viewpoints. It is definitely not a concept album, as Meddle almost was, and as DSOTM absolutely was, but it can be played all the way through quite nicely. Obscured by Clouds does take some time to grow on the listener, but when it does it becomes an essential part of any collection.

One of the better early floyd albums
OBC is slightly different from the later floyd albums , specially with no epic compositions. In that sense it is just another rock album not a floydian. But with david gilmour taking center stage with his guitar and vocals it still has the touch the band we know. Probably recommended for hard core floyd fans like me ;) who know and love thier style in and out.

What's...uh...the deal?
My least favorite Pink Floyd album. A few uninspired film soundtrack jams and a few good but not great songs. Highlights for me: "The Gold It's In The... " sounds like it's a Badfinger track. "Childhood's End" hints at the future of PF. "Free Four" is a fun song. The worst thing on this album: the second half of "Absolutely Curtains" Not a great album, but essential for the Pink Floyd fanatic.
