| Great Film, Ho-hum Extra Others review The single-disc version is the one to get, because in the two-disc set, the second disc is loaded with repetitive and boring material. Still, this is a wonderful film and well worth owning, especially if you like ghost stories. The premise is similar to “The Sixth Sense,” but this is a much more stylish film, and Nicole Kidman proves beyond all doubt that she has the acting chops to match her beauty. The pacing is slow, but never tediously so, and Kidman’s character, Grace, is very well developed. Fionnula Flanagan turns in a subtly disturbing performance as the housekeeper/nanny. The children, too, are quite impressive, considering the complexity of the emotions they are called upon to convey. They suffer from Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP for short), an extremely rare but frighteningly real disease where exposure to sunlight causes third degree burns to the skin. We never see the effects of the disease in the film, but the fact that the very idea of the effects of XP are so horrific adds to the tension. | Great suspensfull and watchable supernatural horror flick This movie is a prime example that you don't need blood and guts to make a movie scary as hell. Nichole Kidman did a great job with her role and she once again proved that she is the greatest Australian actress of all time. A really great suspensfull and chilling thriller that always keeps you on your nerves and keeps you thinking. By Joey 34 (Sydney Australia) This review is for a different format. |
| Best Horror Movie Since "The Haunting" Not since the original version of the movie "The Haunting" has a film come along that contains superb scares, psychological terrors and an atmosphere just dripping with pure horror. Get ready to jump out of your seat numerous times, don't watch it alone, and be prepared for one of the most surprising endings of a film to come along in quite some time. Don't look for computer generated scares; this is an old-fashioned film which relies more on characterization and surroundings to frighten and surprise. If you see only one horror movie this year, make this your #1 choice! By dinogal2 (Mays Landing, NJ, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| The Others The movie gives out chills like no other movie i have ever seen the SIXTH SENSE is similar and excellent but does not give you as much of a shiver down your spine, forget gore, blood, stupidity and bore as other movies give out instead settle for 2 hours of pure frights. THIS IS LIKE NO FILM YOU WILL EVER COME CLOSE TO SEEN. there is one scene i jamp onto the person next to me because i got such a HUGE fright. YOU MUST SEE THIS before all the others.
