Crusade album for sale Product Description

Crusade album for sale by Bluesbreakers / John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers / John Mayall was released Aug 30, 2011 on the Sundazed label. The final album of an (unintentional) trilogy, Crusade is most notable for the appearance of a very young, pre-Rolling Stones Mick Taylor on lead guitar. Crusade CD music Taylor's performance is indeed the highlight, just as Eric Clapton and Peter Green's playing was on the previous album. The centerpiece of the album is a beautiful instrumental by Taylor titled "Snowy Wood," which, while wholly original, seems to combine both Green and Clapton's influence with great style and sensibility. Crusade CD music contains a single disc with 12 songs.   ...See Full Description

Great British blues
Top-notch John Mayall, which means top-notch British blues. Mayall is in fine form on harp and vocals, doing definitive versions of classics like Albert King's "Pretty Woman" as well as his own songs. He was famous for introducing great lead guitarists (Peter Green, Eric Clapton), and here he introduces Mick Taylor, who went on to fame with the Rolling Stones. Taylor's rendition of the instrumental "Driving Sideways" is truly memorable and will have you playing it again--it sounds so good. Highly recommended! (This review is of the original Crusade album, without all of the additional tracks--you can't go wrong!)

After 'Blue Breakers ' w/Eric Clapton, and 'Hard Road' w/Peter Green, John Mayall knew he'd have a tough time finding a British guitarist to fill such shoes. But with a young (18) Mick Taylor he truly lucked out. The lad with the good looks also had a stunningly simple style and rich tone that - with Clapton, Green and Albert King influences - added up to a sum greater than it's parts. The rest of the band, notably drummer Keef Hartley and bassist John McVie (yes, the 'Mac' of Fleetwood Mac), are also superb, driving the music (and the newly added) horn section with a big, big groove. True, some tunes are better than others ('Oh, Pretty Woman', 'Tears in My Eyes', 'Snowy Wood', 'Driving Sideways'... ) are better than others (mainly because of Taylor), but overall this album is a wonderful collection of British Blues as it stood in late '67. And - as in my case back in '68 - may lead you to discover the other Mayall albums released on either side of this one... they're all great in their very own way.

mick taylor's finest hour!
This album is why the stones hired Mick Taylor. The liner notes states Crusade as John Mayall's personal favorite, it's now mine as well. This band kicks. Keef Hartley is perfect for Mayall, along w/ McVie & Mick Taylor. The horn section is very good as well. I believe this band only made this one LP. I think Mayall must of been though on his bands or something.
