Tribe album for sale Product Description
The sole remaining member of the Enrico Rava's stellar working quintet between 2004's Easy Living and 2007's The Words and the Days is trombonist Gianluca Petrella. His horn and Rava's trumpet create a stellar, sometimes fiery front line, but it's one that never loses sight of lyricism. The new group on Tribe has some young members: double bassist Gabriele Evangelista and pianist Giovanni Guidi are in their mid-twenties, while drummer Fabrizio Sferra is a seasoned veteran. ...See Full Description

Jack Bruce / Robin Trower Seven Moons CD (2008)
Tribe buy CD music Jack Bruce must have enjoyed his 2005 get-together with Cream so much that, when Clapton and Baker were unwilling to continue the collaboration, he rang up Robin Trower to renew the brief power trio fling they had in the mid-'80s. The Trower-Bruce pairing had released only two albums, B.L.T. and Truce, and was dormant since 1982, so this 2007 reunion was somewhat of a continuation of the project, albeit one separated by a quarter century. The results impressively continue where Truce left off, as Bruce brings his distinctive croon/moan to bluesy, riff-oriented tunes dominated by Trower's silvery guitar runs. Gary Husband fills the drum ...

Bill Frisell All We Are Saying... CD (2011)
Tribe album for sale Jazz guitarist Bill Frisell delves into the music of John Lennon with 2011's All We Are Saying.... A longtime fan of the Beatles singer/songwriter, Frisell (along with violinist Jenny Scheinman, guitarist Greg Leisz, bassist Tony Scherr, and drummer Kenny Wollesen) tackles such classics as "Across the Universe," "Imagine," "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," "Julia," "Beautiful Boy," and others. Hewing closely to Lennon's original versions, Frisell and company find ways to explore the melodies and emotional content of Lennon's songs without overtly changing the harmonic content of the material.

Charles Lloyd Quartet / Charles Lloyd Quintet / Charles Lloyd Mirror CD (2010)
Tribe songs When Charles Lloyd showcased his quartet in a live setting on 2008's Rabo de Nube, it was one of the more exciting, free-flowing dates of that year. It was physical, full of intense engagement and fiery energy. On that date, he performed a number of tunes he'd recorded before, along with new compositions. Mirror, recorded with the same band -- drummer Eric Harland, pianist Jason Moran, and bassist Reuben Rogers -- in a Santa Barbara studio, is, as the title suggests, a mirror image of the previous outing. Here too, the saxophonist revisits some older material with, thanks in large part to his sidemen, new ears. The material is mostly gently swinging ballads and outré investigations showcasing an even more spiritual side to Lloyd's playing and arranging. But it also displays the great intuitive nuances this band is capable of. While the set opens with an elegant and gently swinging reading of the standard "I Fall in Love Too Easily," it's the follow-up, the spiritual "Go Down Moses," that showcases the group's persona with its modal, questioning concerns, while keeping the tune firmly in the church. The title track appeared on 1989's Canto, and is here performed with the kind of deep commitment and sense of interdependent energy only time and wisdom can impart. Another tune from that album, "Desolation Sound," while still a ballad, features a lot more engagement from the players here: Moran's solo looks in and through the changes to find a way outside and gets there. Harland's shimmering breaks add more crackle than on the original. Likewise, "The ...

Food Quiet Inlet CD (2010)
Tribe album for sale Quiet Inlet is the perfect title for this project by the duo Food, co-led by drummer Thomas Stronen and saxophonist Iain Ballamy. An exercise in texture music via electronica, Stronen and Ballamy take their time constructing lush, late-night vistas of layered sounds, with depth more important than pace. Hardly any variation in tempo can be heard, as sparse percussion accents prompt Ballamy's expansive tenor or soprano saxophone sounds. Only on the funky "Mictyris" in 7/8 time does the ensemble veer away from cloudy soundscapes. Special guest trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer -- a true pioneer of modern electronic film noir-type music -- is heard invading the space during "Dweller," while guitarist Christian Fennesz takes a subsidiary role on select tracks, rather than a frontman's stance. As dreamy music goes, this CD is not only a departure from the ECM catalog, but could be a portent toward the future of a new style of contemporary music. ~ Michael G. Nastos
