Classic! This is one of the best musical adaptations ever. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked in favor of far inferior versions. Everyone should make watching this film a Christmas tradition in their family. It could even make you wish you were living back in Dickens' time! An all star cast and memorable songs make this DVD highly recommended. By a reviewer (Tulsa OK) This review is for a different format.
Putting the Dickens back in Christmas This adaptation of the famous Dicken's story, "A Christmas Carol", goes largly forgotten in most circles. This is a shame as it is without a doubt one of the finest holiday prgrams available. So well done, in fact, that it could easily be seen at anytime of the year without seeming out of place. Albert Finney stars as the finest Scrooge the screen has seen in this musical version of the classic tale. From song to song, scene to scene, the story comes alive with an emotional involvment that other versions do not come close too. Well acted (4 Emmy nominations) and historically accurtate sets keep adults entertained, while Finney's crusty, mean Scrooge is still loveable enough for children to warm up to. In the end, the whole family will be singing the songs...for months to come. Sadly, only one things leaves this version behind any other...it is not available on DVD. If anyone knows how to petition Fox Home Entertainment, start now so that maybe they will bring it out on DVD next Christmas. By a reviewer (Walpole, MA) This review is for a different format.
Finally after a long search Had an old copy of this movie and tape broke. Have been looking for two years to replace this movie. It has become a family classic. I simply love the music By sjmc101 (new jersey) This review is for a different format.
Wow! This really is Christmas. Christmas is only complete in our house with a viewing of "Scrooge - The Musical". Unfortunately it's not available on DVD in UK (yet) and this recording can only be viewed on a multi-regional player or through the PC. However this musical captures the very essence of the age-less story. There's something re-energising about happiness conquering misery and even more compelling is the need to burst into the song "Thank you very much". Go on don't be a Scrooge buy this for next Christmas. By brian_topping (Lancashire, UK) This review is for a different format.
My favorite Scrooge! Of the many different Scrooge's out there, this one is my absolute favorite. Albert Finney's performance is nothing short of phenomenal. The soundtrack to this film is so fantastic I wish I had a CD of just the music so I could listen all season. You haven't experienced "The Christmas Carol" until you have seen this rendition of Scrooge. By davejag (Goffstown, NH) This review is for a different format.
