| RE: "What Gives?" This is not Crimsons best, I'll admit that, but a great album non the less. GOod suggestions with Yes, Floyd and Tull, but if you think this album is "boring" you havent listened to it. So much is going on in the music its extraordinary. Give it another listen man. | Amazing Every time I listen to this CD I am beeing blown away. There are no words to describe this album. You just have to listen to it, listen a lot. By Pawel (NYC, NY) This review is for a different format. |
| one of their best get this & 'in the court', 'red', & 'discipline.' By punky79 ([pittsburgh, pa) This review is for a different format. |
| What gives? I think the reviewer below put it best -this album is "headphone music". That is, music that is obsessed more with creating weird moody atmosphere than actual melodies. There are a couple of interesting riffs and changes here but otherwise the album is quite BORING to listen to unless, I guess, you're under the influence.. but I bet even britney spears sounds good under the influence. anyways, if you want progrock that showcases brilliant songwriting, check out Yes, Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd.. | unique This is my favorite album. And King Crimson's most underrated. Perfect headphone music. Takes you to a musical place you've never been. Inpsired percussion by Bill Bruford. On the title track, Robert Fripp sustains a dissonant tension throughout, he somehow with Wetton, Cross, and Bruford make it all fit together. "Fracture" is musical gymnastics at its best. It's easy to relate to the band's restrained exclamations at seminal moments. This is an album to take if stranded on a dessert island!
