An insufferably arrogant linguist, Professor Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison), bets a colleague that he can transform a flower-selling Cockney guttersnipe into a regal lady. His quarry, the irrepressible Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn), accepts his offer for diction lessons in good faith, hoping to improve her station with a career as a shopgirl. This quintessential musical, scored by Lerner and Loewe, was based on the 1913 play PYGMALION by George Bernard Shaw, and virtually swept the Academy Awards, winning, among others, Best Picture, Director, and Actor (Harrison).
A priceless classic, MY FAIR LADY has become one of the most popular musicals of all time. Based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play PYGMALION, the film swept the Academy Awards. Cecil Beaton's lavish sets and costumes and Lerner and Loewe's winning score became the background for George Cukor's striking mix of styles that ranged from the fantastic to the abstract in his telling of the tale of a waif who's educated into being a lady. ...See Full Description

| Great Classic I great romantic story about the transformation of a woman from that of a flower seller on the street to almost a princess like woman. Audrey Hepburn is wonderful as always. By tiffanyfurton (Long Island, NY, USA) This review is for a different format. |

| Simply stunning Gorgeous to look at, luverly to hear. My only disappointment was Audrey, would have much rather seen Julie Andrews in the role. Thank goodness Marnie Nixon does Audrey's voice. Otherwise a perfect movie. By Lesley (Sydney Australia) This review is for a different format. |
| Simply stunning... I'm 21, and I love everything about this movie... Simply beautiful! By a reviewer (Portland, Maine) This review is for a different format. |
| One of Hollywood's best Broadway musical films This is one of Hollywood's finest moments when it comes to adapting a Broadway musical for the stage. And what a musical! It has some of the loveliest tunes to have ever graced the stage and a book with real characters and dialogue, courtesy of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. Rex Harrison reprises his Broadway role as does Stanley Holloway. Audrey Hepburn is the picture of Eliza Doolittle. The film manages to be quite faithful to the original play-nearly word for word- and retains much of the intimacy of the stage.
