Want to hear part of the reason why Johnny Cash is an icon, a singer respected and influential in country, folk, and rock & roll? THIS is it! In 1968--one of the most tumultuous years in American history since the Depression years--Cash recorded an album live in front of a (literally) captive (but wildly appreciative) audience, in Folsom Prison. At Folsom Prison CD music With two guitars, bass, drums, and a small vocal group (including Cash's wife June Carter Cash and the Statler Brothers), Cash sings his hits and lesser-known songs ("Send a Picture of Mother") and some haunting country standards ("Dark as a Dungeon"), as well as songs about REAL outlaws ("Cocaine Blues") to a rapt audience that hangs on every word. At Folsom Prison music CDs That boom-chicka-boom sound is sharp as the first mean wind of winter, and Cash is in fine fettle (though his voice cracks from time to time). | Worthwhile I am very satisfied with the CD ordered. My husband had an old album, but with times changing CD's are much more compatible with the stereo systems. By Trish (New Bern, NC, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| Best Live CD I've Ever Heard Incredible. My mom insisted I get this CD telling me that it broke recods when it was released and no other country artist had broken out of their realm with such an incredible album. I was like, "Yeah I'll pick it up. Johnny is cool, but not really a slow country fan." Boy was I wrong. Johnny is not country. He's a raw, real, bad ass. He is an incredible song writer and this CD is so real you feel like you are in Folsom with these guys. At the end when the warden tries to kiss Johnny's butt You can actually feel him feeling like the moron he is as Johnny hardley says a word. You feel the warden's total humiliation. Then when the concert ends and you hear the prisoners being shuffled back to their cell blocks you actually feel as though you were there. I see why this album broke album sales and musical barriers when it was released. This album is legendary and my #1 favoorite. I'm proud to have it in my collection. He is his own. This album proves he a legend. By Cat (Atlanta, Ga.) This review is for a different format. |
