Porcupine Tree In Absentia CD (2002) Top Seller
Noctourniquet songs There's a breed of (post-1980s) bands with the same degree of grand rock experimentalism as Pink Floyd and Yes, who simultaneously adhere to the concept of concise songwriting. Porcupine Tree is one such band--their sound is a balance of lush ambient textures, charming vocal harmonies, rock & roll directness, and acoustically- and electronically-generated sounds. Their debut IN ABSENTIA shows all these elements in place, rich with the likely possibility of them becoming a contemporary counterpart to Pink Floyd.
Hailed by Billboard as 'cinematic...simple gorgeous', Porcupine Tree are unquestionably one of the UK's most inspired and inventive rock groups. In Absentia is their eagerly anticipated Lava Records debut. Digipak. 2002.
Recorded at Avatar Studio, New York, New York between March & April 2002.

Frances the Mute CD (2005)
Noctourniquet buy CD music FRANCES THE MUTE, the highly anticipated follow-up to the Mars Volta's stunning debut, DE-LOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM, finds the band's masterminds, Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (both formerly of At the Drive-In), diving further into their bizarre, unique sonic aesthetic. Here various forms of Latin music merge with ambient passages, jazzy interludes, and fierce progressive rock. The Latin influence, in fact, is more evident than ever, with Bixler Zavala often alternating between Spanish and English lyrics, and full-on salsa sections providing a melodic respite from the energetic chaos (particularly on "L'Via L'Viaquez," which features pianist Larry Harlow). Despite the complexity of FRANCES THE MUTE's suite-like song structures, the tracks form a fascinating whole, never losing focus of the group's key elements--Bixler Zavala's stunningly expressive vocals and Rodriguez-Lopez's amazingly proficient guitar heroics. A challenging and fascinating album, FRANCES THE MUTE reinforces the Mars Volta's reputation as a ...

Amputechture CD (2006)
Noctourniquet album for sale On its third full-length album, the Mars Volta abandoned the enigmatic conceptual themes of its acclaimed earlier outings, DE-LOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM and FRANCES THE MUTE, but left its fascinatingly bizarre aesthetic intact. The result is a more immediate, though certainly not more conventional, approach, as vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala and guitarist Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez once again take listeners on a tour of surreal rock territory where the sounds of King Crimson, Santana, and Led Zeppelin are welded together into frenetic post-punk-influenced aural sculptures. Featuring significant contributions by multi-instrumentalist Pablo Hinojos-Gonzalez and frequent guest guitarist John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, AMPUTECHTURE is slightly less daunting than Volta's previous discs (see the stomping, horn-laden "Viscera Eyes"), but no less inventive.

Bedlam in Goliath CD (2008)
Noctourniquet CD music With its furious sonic assault, wildly surrealist sensibility, and volatile mystique, the Mars Volta seemed like a band that would gloriously self-destruct after a couple of albums. Although the Los Angeles-based post-punk/prog-rock group did allegedly almost break up prior to THE BEDLAM IN GOLIATH, the record finds vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala, guitarist Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez, and company still creating a fascinating racket more than four years after its startling 2003 debut, DE-LOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM.
Informed by Rodriguez-Lopez's bad ouija-board experiences, THE BEDLAM IN GOLIATH is typically cryptic in its subject matter, and unsurprisingly fiery in both Bixler Zavala's signature wail and the ensemble's tight instrumental interplay, particularly on the surging "Wax Simulacra." While Rodriguez-Lopez's searing guitar lines are at the fore, BEDLAM's secret weapon is the drumming of new recruit Thomas Pridgen, who propels the songs forward with a pummeling, tightly wound momentum (see the shifting rhythms of "Goliath"), bringing a palpable sense of vitality that reverberates throughout the album.
Composer: Nathaniel Tookey.
Personnel: Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals); Anthony Blea, Edwin Huizinga (violin); Charith Premawardhana (viola); Sam D. Bass (cello); Owen Levine (upright bass).
Audio Mixer: Rich Costey.

Octahedron CD (2009)
Noctourniquet album for sale For punk, metal or hard rock bands, the unplugged album is the one that shows whether they've been succeeding simply on energy and volume, or because of real talent. (Anyone who remained a skeptic of Kurt Cobain's songwriting skills must have been converted by Nirvana's MTV UNPLUGGED masterpiece.) And OCTAHEDRON, a quieter and more subdued Mars Volta album, proves that same fact for a band that's perpetually lived on a knife's edge of tension. Recorded in less than a month, OCTAHEDRON is by no means an unplugged album--it's not acoustic, it's not confined to ballads, and includes consecutive hard rockers in "Cotopaxi" and "Desperate Graves"--but it charts a different direction for the group, and proves they don't need to shuttle between dynamic extremes in order to succeed on an artistic level.
Audio Mixer: Rich Costey.
Recording information: Sutton St., Brooklyn, NY (08/2008).
Arranger: Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.
The Mars Volta: Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals); Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.
Personnel: Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, John Frusciante (guitar); Mark Aanderud (piano); Isaiah "Ikey" Owens (keyboards); Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez (synthesizer); Juan Alderete De La Pena (bass instrument); Thomas Pridgen (drums).
